Subject: Take 10 minutes to email Governor Cuomo to increase support for Ending the Epidemic!
Dear Ending the Epidemic Community,
Now is a critical moment, and we are asking for your help. If your organization has already sent in a letter to Governor Cuomo on Ending the Epidemic funding, please consider doing an all-staff email to let individual staff, clients and advocates know about the opportunity to write letters in support of implementing the plan to End AIDS in New York. As you know, now is a critical time during budget season, and we are asking as many organizations and individuals as possible to write letters to Governor Cuomo urging him include additional funding in the 30-day amendment period to implement the Ending the Epidemic Blueprint. More than 85 letters have already been delivered to the Governor, but we need to get more in!!
Because the deadline for these budget changes is soon, our goal is to have as many individual letters from community members as possible by the deadline of Monday, February 8th at 11 am. Please take 10 minutes to send an email or ask your organization to send an all-staff email to let people know how they can advocate to End AIDS in NY.
This additional funding is essential if we are going to reach our shared goal of ending New York’s HIV/AIDS epidemic by 2020—people’s health and lives are on the line.
Attached is a template for individual and organizational letters to Governor Cuomo about increasing the Ending the Epidemic budget allocation during the 30-day amendment period.
Here are four easy steps to follow:
1. Open the attached Word doc template and in the highlighted area fill in a message about yourself and your organization’s work in the fight against AIDS. (e.g., “The initiatives to end AIDS in NY by 2020 are important to me and my family because______”
2. Make sure to sign and put your contact information at the bottom of the letter.
3. Email your letter to the Governor by copy and pasting it into an email to Governor Cuomo: gov....@chamber.state.ny.us
And you can also paste a shorter version of the letter in the form on the Governor’s website: http://www.governor.ny.gov/contact
(Use the topic: Healthcare and the Subject: “Ending the HIV/AIDS Epidemic”)
4. Convert your emails to PDFs (if possible) and email your letter to Reed Vreeland at Housing Works, so he can have the letters printed and hand delivered to the Governor’s office. Email Reed at: r.vre...@housingworks.org
This process should be very easy and only will take about 10 minutes. Your voices make a huge difference and we will be asking advocates from across New York to send in these letters in as soon as possible. Thank you for your help.
If you are part of a Network or Organization, you can use the below language to send an email to your organization’s staff or to your email list:
Dear ____,
We are at a critical point of the New York State budget season and are asking people to send letters to Governor Cuomo to urge him to make good on his World AIDS Day pledge to expand funding for HIV/AIDS initiatives and essential services, including housing support. This funding will provide needed financial support to turn the Ending the Epidemic Blueprint into action and allow us to reach an end of New York’s HIV/AIDS epidemic by the year 2020.
