Dear Ending the Epidemic Community,
Please quickly review the attached community letter to Governor Cuomo and email me if your organization would like to sign before the deadline of tonight, Wednesday April 6 at 6:00pm. Please circulate this letter widely to additional organizations and allies in your networks and encourage them to sign on as well.
On Monday’s End AIDS NY Coalition call we reviewed the final budget and the fact that only $10 million was funded out of the $70 million in core ETE funding that is necessary to achieve our ETE goals this year. The Coalition decided on the call that it is urgent to send a community letter to the Governor to convey the community’s dismay at this funding shortfall, and to press for “HASA For All” and housing assistance for people with HIV in the rest of the state to be part of the $2 billion comprehensive statewide housing plan to combat housing affordability and homelessness, the details of which are still being negotiated.
Attached is the City and State op-ed discussed on the call co-authored by a number of prominent researchers and physicians in support of “HASA For All”: http://nyslant.com/article/opinion/state-must-step-up-in-fight-to-end-the-hiv/aids-epidemic.html
Please review the attached community letter to Governor Cuomo and email Reed Vreeland at r.vre...@housingworks.org if your organization would like to sign on. My apologies for the quick turn-around, but it is critical for us to get as many community organizations to sign on as possible before tomorrow to send a strong, clear message after the past months of hard work advocating to implement the ETE Blueprint.
Sending many thanks and all the best,
Carmelita & Reed
Carmelita Cruz, Esq.
