Greetings again NM,

Our next gathering is set for SUNDAY May 20th. It will be an
activities get together. It will be the first time to go to Rosemary
and Howard's place in EDENS Road, Hope. The entrance will be
sign-posted with something mediaevelly. The venue has room for
Archery (Markus we will need a target) I have a couple of bales for a
butt. There is plenty of outdoor spaces for activity(s) -dancing etc
and or work on craft projects. If wet we will be inside. Bring
afternoon tea to share. The get together will be from 2pm - 4.30pm.

Edens Road runs West off the main highway. Those coming from Nelson
way turn right into Edens Road.

Please let us know if you are coming.

Cheers Mike

Sorry folks,  I'm still recovering from the op.  I thought I'd be better by now but there's some kind of complication making me feel bad again.  Roger has been keeping nearby and is looking after me.

Have a great gathering,
Alli

Hi Folks sorry for major delay of these minutes.  Farewell parties and kidney operations are my excuses.  Still, I should have done them sooner.  Sorry,

I'll do them as an attachment and also copy and paste into here to help all computer broadband levels.

Minutes of Meeting Held on 29th April at Eryl's

Present: Eryl, Mike, Kate, Roger Alli – joined later by Hazel

Apologies from Markus & Christine

Previous minutes accepted.

Markus had, along with his apologies sent an e-mail outlining some points

A. We should skip ordering an awning for now as,

      1. The SBS tent can be borrowed.

      2. We should use the money to buy some of Boyd's stuff.

      3. We need more members.

B. Aquiring more memebers should be our main aim.

C. From Marchfest was there a contact about a Winter Fair?

Medieval Fair – It was felt that we have an insufficient number of us to keep up the amazing high standard we set last year and therefore should not attempt to repeat it but we should do something – more discussion needed.

Boyd's Stuff – Eryl is happy to store things so we ought to take some stuff.

From Mike:

Plans ahead? Archery seems to be the most popular of our activities and most likely to produce new members. Perhaps we should try an Archery Event with some other medieval stuff going on as a background setting.

Kate's Display in Richmond Library: Well done Kate, Roger had seen it and said it is very, very well done. Many thnaks to Kate for her effort. Kate in turn thanked all those who had provided items for display.

How Do We Want Nelson Medieval to be Shaped? Do we want to keep to representing time periods between 800 and 1600? Do we restrict to a narrower time by making it more defined so we can go into more detail of that time? Foscus on a specific period? Or keep to what we already do as, locally speaking, most of our immediate audience wouldn't know a 13th Century frock from a 15th Century one?

Have a think and let's all chat on admin.

Singing Group: Hazel tells us there's a group on the go who are up for including medieval singing and we could join onto it.

Dancing Group:An advert is going into The Leader that dancing will be back on.

Other Items:

Sword fighting is not possible at the moment but if anyone asks we could point them towards other activities eg Archery until it may be possible again.

Hazel suggested a Market Walk prior to next gathering and Roger suggested that since the woman who runs the market gets grumpy if we hand out leaflets then perhaps we could take a stall one weekend to promote ourselves.

Hazel will send on any new contacts she gets but someone else will then have to take it on.

If we get a request for us to do something like the holiday programme we were asked to help with, the answer can be yes but only if we have people available and that there will be a charge. The amount can be discussed and can vary from covering fuel costs upwards. We could create a document for use when we are approached with this kind of thing.

Rosemary & Howard have offered their house for the next meeting. Eden Road in Hope. Archery ought to be possible.

Unfortunately Alli & Roger had to dash at this point and so no further minutes were taken.

Sorry these took so long to get done too.

Alli

Hi all

This is a reminder that we're having a pot luck mediaeval midwinter feast at our place on Saturday 11 August, 6pm - 9pm (sorry, I need my beauty sleep!), please bring a plate with food on it, plus plates etc. to eat from, drink, stories, songs, and any candles/ decorations/ banners to make it more mediaevally.

Please let me know who can make it so I know how many tables to bring up from the barn...

:)

Hi all,

We're looking forward to seeing you on Saturday :)
Just a reminder that our address is 19 Pigeon Valley South Branch; when you get to Wakefield turn right up Pigeon Valley, go past the golf course and steam museum, at the top of a rise the road forks so take the left one up Pigeon Valley Road South, and we're about 200 metres from the fork on the left.
Thanks very much Alli for the table cloths, and anyone who'd like to come about 5:30 onwards to help 'mediaeval-up' our lounge is very welcome!
Tim and his friend would like to come but I don't have his contact details, so if anyone does could you please let him know?
If you would like to invite anyone from archery/ dancing etc. go ahead, please just let me know numbers.

See you soon
Eryl

Hi everyone

It was really lovely having you around for the feast on Saturday, and we're very happy to do it again whenever it fits into people's social calendars  :-)

This is just a reminder of the meeting here at 1:30pm on  Sunday 23rd September to discuss camp affairs, for you to write into your diaries, and maybe we could bring mediaevally-type crafts to do at the same time and make an afternoon of it?  Or if someone finds a pattern for a mobile bread oven we could start on that. What does everyone think?

Also I spotted cast iron Dutch ovens in the camping aisle at Mitre 10, for between ~$40 and $100 which could serve as cauldrons - they don't have the classic rounded bottom or legs but have the semi-circular handle so they can be suspended over the fire.

Hi everyone

This is a reminder that there is a meeting at 1:30 this Sunday at our place to discuss the camp. Feel free to bring crafts or whatever to do as well, and we can make an afternoon of it if you'd like to :)

Take care

Hi everyone,

Happy new year if I haven't said it before now :)
We've got back from Canterbury Faire all keen, but for the next few months the children are very busy (and therefore so is their chauffeur!), but I'd like something mediaeval to look forward to. How is everybody fixed in May, for a get-together/ craft session/ archery / feast / brainstorm / other suggestions at our place? Does this sound good and is there any particular weekend that people are not available?

On another matter, does anyone know people talented in Irish dancing or other Irish-themed entertainment skills who might be willing to donate some time to a 16th March fundraising dinner for Beth's school group to go on the Spirit of NZ sailing boat?

Take care and let me know about mediaeval May,
Eryl

Hi

I like the idea of doing something in May. I rather have a planned break than an unplanned break :-)

About the Irish stuff: I'm pretty good at drinking Irish whisky ;-)

Cheers,
Markus

Hi everyone

Does Saturday the 25th May suit everyone to have our feast? I'd like to find a date that suits everyone if possible :)

I'm thinking; pot luck mediaeval, 5pm - 9pm at our place, I'll make sure the fire is going, we can eat, drink (I found the lost bottle of mead) and be merry, and talk about what we want to do for the rest of the year. How does that sound?

Take care
Eryl

Hi Alli

I have a couple of friends keen to come to the feast but worried about garb - can I ask you please to let them know what you have in the way of loaner gear? Carolyn is taller than me and in proportion, Helen is about my height and curvier.

Their names and email addresses are;
Helen Grant
E-mail Address:  helm...@xtra.co.nz
Carolyn Lueken
Email Address : whitewin...@yahoo.co.nz

Thank you :) Looking forward to seeing you at the feast.

Hi everyone
here's a reminder about the feast! If you could bring a chair that might help as we have 14 chairs and 20 odd guests.... also any banners/ decorations would be appreciated!

This is the invitation I sent out to Dramatix, but not many responded alas. Will be fun anyway!

Nelson Mediaeval is holding a Mediaeval Potluck Feast at my place on
Saturday 25 May, 5pm arrive here (start eating about 5:15) 9pm finish. (My
fairy godmother got it wrong and
I turn into a pumpkin just after 9pm.)

Try to look vaguely Dark or Middle Ages (Ali has spare garb to lend out) but
as this encompasses about a thousand years don't stress over it, bring a
plate of something vaguely mediaeval to share plus something potable (not
sure if my mead should be included in this but it will be offered
anyway....)

Bring a goblet, wooden plate, eating dagger and spoon, or whatever is the
nearest equivalent you have, and most importantly
please let me know you are coming by TUESDAY 21 MAY. I need about that long
to rearrange my lounge.

My email is e.f.g...@xtra.co.nz
Costume and food ideas abound on the web but remember this is about fun (not
stress)

 :)
