03 - Your question or comments = Hello,
I would like to have a group of Year 9-10 (13-14 year-old) students perform in the ball scene from Romeo and Juliet for the regional Shakespeare Festival in the last weekend of March. I would love to include a dance in medieval style. Would there be someone from your group who could teach us a simple dance? I have a number of CD tracks from the Globe Theatre in London which might be suitable to use. Students don't have long enough breaks during the day for rehearsal so I imagine we would have to schedule a couple of weekend rehearsals to get the dance set in motion. If you are able to help us, that would be wonderful.

03 - Your question or comments = Hi,
I am currently organizing the Sprig & Fern Summer Fare to held in Sundial Square, Richmond on Friday 23 March from 5.30pm-10pm. I'm not sure if you are aware of this event or if you had any involvement last year as it ran with a medieval theme. We are again running with a medieval theme as this proved quite successful and a lot of people enjoyed it and came dressed up for the occasion.
I would like to enquire as to whether Nelson Medieval would be interested in having some involvement with this on the day as it would tie in great with the theme. I wasn't organizing the event last year but there was a lords & ladies parade, stocks where people were 'wet sponged' and games like apple bobbing. The event attracted around 3,000 people last year and has been running for the last 6 years. We are aiming to have roughly 25-30 stalls there which will mainly be selling food and some beer and wines sales.
Please let me know if you would be interested in attending and if so the sorts of things your group might be interested in doing at the event.
Kind regards,
David McConachie

Sounds like the event has become much more medieval in the last couple of years!
This is the night before Marchfest. So may be too much. However it would be a good promotional activity for the group if you want to reinforce that there is a medieval group in town. It is the only medieval event in the region so it would be good to make an appearance.
Couldn’t do archery or sword stuff (safety reasons), but we could do the stocks and sponges thing, and perhaps resurrect the piggyback jousting? Could do some singing if the singers were interested. And maybe a very simple dance? People really loved the Maypole. Perhaps a story for the kids?
I’d be happy to help if our work was in the earlier part of the evening and we were allowed to leave by 8.30/9pm if we wanted. However, we would need a commitment from most people in the group to attend to put on a decent show. I don’t want to go if we can only rustle up four people.

I would appreciate any input so I can formulate a response. This event is on a Friday, so may not impinge too much on peoples weekend. How do people feel about going along?

Right then, so shall I let the guys know no one will be there or are there those among you who would like to go along anyway?
Error! Filename not specified.
I think we should charge a hire fee for the stocks. If we choose to lend them out. Assuming we have all the bits to make them work again – I think Boyd mentioned we don’t have a base to put them on. We made a loss on the Tavern Revel due to poor numbers so maybe we should look at hiring this as a way to recoup that money.
I’m happy to go and assist if someone wants me to help, but not to lead anything.

Do you guys have the stocks (Y+B)? If so, would you mind assessing if they can be assembled in a state fit for lending out and contact the dude. Also, is the guy willing to collect, or would someone need to transport them? Are they heavy?
I have no idea how much to hire them out for. I don’t think you’d be able to get much though, this being Nelson and all…. ;) Feel free to charge whatever you think appropriate.
Markus has the stocks.
I’d say they’d have to collect.
