OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition. This is advanced technology that enables you to transform hard copy documents and images into editable digital files, or to extract data locked inside scanned PDFs into easy-to-edit file formats like Microsoft Word and Excel.

Optical character recognition scans image-based files looking for text and tries to recognize individual characters. Once visual clues inside the document are matched with any character in the underlying character database, OCR produces machine-encoded text that users can edit in word processors.

One more benefit of using OCR software is related to making paper documentation digitally searchable. Once all your scanned documents have been OCRed, you can easily search for a specific document or even a keyword across the whole set of documents.

If you want to have more flexibility over your conversion and the range of output file formats available, try Able2Extract Professional that comes with a powerful OCR engine baked right in to provide you with a complete desktop PDF solution for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

You can choose to convert everything or just a portion of a document, extract special characters in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Greek, Dutch, Danish, Finnish, Swedish, and Norwegian languages. Make scanned PDFs searchable without conversion, and get the editable file into various file formats.

Editing a scanned PDF (or any PDF for that matter) can mean at least three completely different tasks (both in terms of complexity and execution). Good news is, Able2Extract Professional can perform all of them on Mac.

Typing on a scanned PDF is possible with a desktop PDF solution such as Able2Extract Professional. Since a scanned PDF is basically an image of a document, typing on it will add a new layer containing text on top of the original image layer.

To conclude, free online tools can help you convert a scanned PDF to Word for free. However, if you are not comfortable with their limitations, you should look into a desktop PDF converter with OCR such as Able2Extract Professional.

The OCR engine in Able2Extract Pro supports recognition of 12 languages and its respective special characters: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Greek, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, and Swedish.

.pages files are documents, created with Apple's word processor Pages, which is part of the iWork package. Pages is available for Mac OS X and iOS and is a competitor to Microsoft Word. .pages files can contain complex documents with tables, charts and pictures.

DOC is a word processing file created by Microsoft. This files format turns a plain-text format into a formatted document. It supports almost all the Operating Systems. It can contain large amount of text, data, charts, table, image etc. It can contain rich text format (RTF) and HTML texts also.

There is a 100 MB file-size limit for uploading to the Adobe PDF Pack online service. Since no such limitation exists for Acrobat, you could use that to convert the file to PDF. You're welcome to download a free 30-day trial, and give it a spin. For more information, see www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html.

The solution below no longer functions to save others from uncessary attempts at conversion, word refuses to export pdf for files above 40mb or so. Tried and failed with a 140mb file using acrobat pro dc software.

Yes, this is immensely frustrating. I have a large document that is going to be around 150 mb with links through the document and now can't get it into PDF format. I've tried breaking it up and tricking the links to no avail.

If you mean click: Acrobat - Create PDF then on files > 40MB a warning says to use local Acrobat software. With the local Acrobat software 2 choices for export are available and neither of them preserve the URL links in the document.

I have since found that if I open the file directly in Adobe Acrobat (using 'All Files' in File Open) I am able to create a pdf with links. After a 5 minute wait and 'file uploading to the cloud / converting your file' messages there is a working pdf that can be saved. This seems to be the same process that is triggered by Word but without the 40 MB limit. We will see what happens when I finihsed writing and have an even larger file.

Another attempt, 30 mins later, this time using Acrobat and the "File > Create > PDF from file" menu has been successful. I appears to go through the same 'upload to cloud / convert file' 5 minute process.

My problem is still that conversion direct via Word is unreliable and poorly documented and has a 40 MB limit that seemingly does not apply when the process is performed outside of Word. I don't know whether this is a Word problem or an Adobe problem.

I'm currently looking for recommendations on the best PDF to Word converter for PC. I need a tool that can handle a variety of PDF documents, including those with complex layouts, images, and various fonts, and convert them into editable Word files without losing the formatting.

I would appreciate suggestions based on personal experiences, particularly noting the software's accuracy, ease of use, and any features that stand out. Price is also a consideration, so I'd like to hear if there are good free options or if it's worth investing in a paid version. Thanks in advance for your help!

Though Microsoft Word is able to open PDF file and convert it to DOCX, there are a lot of advance elements are missing from the converted Word document. So it is more recommended using a dedicated PDF to Word Converter instead, such as PDFGeeker. With it, you can easily convert PDF to Word without losing quality and layout:

Nitro PDF Pro: Known for its impressive features and ease of use, Nitro PDF Pro offers excellent PDF conversion options, including to Word. It also includes features for editing and securing PDFs.
Foxit PDF Editor: Offers a powerful PDF conversion engine that can handle complex documents with ease, preserving layouts, images, and fonts accurately.

Smallpdf: A versatile online PDF to Word converter tool that also offers a desktop version for offline conversions. It's user-friendly and efficient, though the free version has some limitations in daily usage.

When you're looking for a PDF to Word converter for Windows, there are a few good options out there based on what you need. If you're after a free PDF to word converter that's easy to use, I'd suggest giving PDF2GO or Smallpdf a try. They handle straightforward PDF to Word conversions quite well, especially if your documents aren't overly complex.

However, if your PDFs include complex layouts, images, and various fonts that you want to keep intact, then a paid converter like Adobe Acrobat might be the way to go. It's one of the best PDF to Word converters in terms of maintaining the original formatting and detail. The cost is higher, but it's a solid investment if you're dealing with complicated documents regularly.

No one mentions Foxit PDF Editor? It is one of the best PDF to Word Converter software for PC in the world. You can easily convert PDF to Word document without losing quality. And catch convert is supported by default. The only problem is that the price is too high! 159 USD per year! However, there are many free and cheap PDF to Doc/DOCX converter available. You can check out them from the above recommendations.

Sure thing! I'd recommend checking out Nitro PDF Pro for converting PDFs to Word. It's really good at keeping all the formatting straight, even with complex layouts and funky fonts. The interface is super easy to use, too. It's not free, but it might be worth the cash if you've got a lot of detailed files to handle.

If you're after something free, PDFMate PDF to Word Converter Free is decent for simpler stuff and can handle batch conversions. But for really detailed PDFs, paying up for Nitro might just save you a headache or two.

iLovePDF ( _to_word) is the best online PDF to Word Converter as far as I know. This powerful tool offers a seamless and user-friendly experience, allowing you to easily convert your PDFs to editable Word files in just a few clicks.
