Randy Swaty (TNC) and I recently hosted a Biophysical Settings (BpS) review workshop from a cabin in Danbury, WI on August 8th, 2017. A
need was identified to review oak and pine systems in the Great Lakes, and we
were able to identify many experts with knowledge of these systems. Typically
these workshops are hosted in person, but we experimented with having some
in-person attendees as well as several on a Skype web meeting. We sent out
questions to review, relevant maps, and BpS model descriptions prior to the
workshop. You can see those files here.
We had very thoughtful discussions about these systems and as we continue to learn, there is so much that we do not understand about our ecological systems. We will be incorporating the information shared into the BpS model descriptions as much as possible, suggesting changes to the mapping, and continuing the discussion and research about our ecosystems.
Attendees: Jed Meunier (WI DNR), Rich Henderson (WI DNR), Pauline Drobney (USFWS), Dave Cleland (USFS), Sarah Hagen* (TNC), Eric North* (All Things Wild Consulting), Megan Sebasky (WI DNR), Craig Maier (JFSP), Jack McGowan-Stinski (JFSP), Randy Swaty* (TNC)
