Hoe ziet zo’n
wereld eruit?

Summary

This paper will focus on the relationships between language, religion,
identity, and diplomacy in the ‘Promised’/ ‘Holy Land’ during the first
half of the 20th century, in parallel to the repositioning of Christian
and Jewish various communities at the micro, meso, and macro levels.
Jerusalem remained the city of the so-called ‘Promised’/ ‘Holy Land’,
with most schools established by European states, although the language
and cultural agenda was negotiated across the whole of Ottoman then
British Mandate Palestine and beyond, at both a regional and
transnational level. The paper considers Palestine as an
internationalised node within a transnational framework, in an effort to
appreciate how language and cultural interactions produced new modes of
modernity.

kuntekstoSustainable language policy and planning in a European

SummaryThis lecture gives an overview of the most important strategies
that are currently in use in the field of language policy and planning
(LPP) throughout Europe, with special attention to the European Union.
By comparing this to the concept of sustainability according to the
Sustainable Development Goals as the Agenda 2030 of the UN, this lecture
aims to answer the question whether a sustainable language policy for
Europe exists, and if this is the case, how we can support it.
