I'm happy to announce the October open meeting of the NEIU SPS will be
held on Monday, October 20th at 7:30pm. We will meet once again in
the physics lab SCI-237 (Science Building).

I'm also inviting students from North Park University to join us, as
they are working to rebuild their SPS chapter. We welcome our
neighboring chapter to help out in our projects or to just get a feel
for how you can better organize your own chapter.

I've bumped the time back a little bit so that we can better
accommodate those students in the Ordinary Differential Equations
class. The format will be a little different this time. From
7:30-8:15, we are going to have an open mingling, food & drinks, and
caucus in project groups. This means that the project leaders will
meet with any members that are interested in taking part in their
project, assign work groups and tasks, and formulate a general game
plan to achieve the goals of the project.

Different projects are:
- SigPiSig Congressional Detachment (I will lead)
- Fusion project (led by John Papiewski)
- Outreach program (led by Steve Burkland)
- Rocket project (led by Sam Kolontouros)

The formal meeting will then commence about 8:15pm (should wrap up by
9:00pm). We have a few things on the agenda to talk about:
- SPS Website: The chapter Webmaster Steve Burkland will be giving
updates on the new site, and discussing a full transition to the site
from the Google Group.
- Ion Drive: One of our newer members has a project he is working on
that he may want to either collaborate with others on, or just present
his work to our chapter.
- Member Donation Drive: Our chapter Treasurer Dan McGovern will be
taking donations from members. This is completely voluntary, and you
can give in any amount. All donations exclusively support chapter
projects, outreach programs, and student/member research.
- Student Seminars: I would like to coordinate any students or
members that would like to present a project or research they are
working on. We would hold seminars during meetings throughout the
remainder of the year. Seminars should be any where from 10 to 30
minutes. Anything longer than that, and we will have to hold the
seminar separate from a meeting.
- Physics Jeopardy: We may possibly host a game of Physics Jeopardy
one of these days. I'd like to gauge member interest in taking part
(competing, organizing, or watching).

If anyone would like to add to the agenda, post it here. We will have
time to discuss a few more things.

FOOD: Dr. Acioli will be taking care of the pizza again (we can never
give enough thanks, Dr. Acioli). However, we need members to bring in
other snacks and drinks. I'm asking for a few people to volunteer to
bring whatever they feel like (chips, soda, cookies, milk, vegetable
tray, etc.). Please post here what you are planning to bring.
Thanks!
