Housing affordability, livability, community, and access to housing for all people are issues that are dear to my heart. My wife wishes I would talk about them a little less, but while she is distracted watching the Seahawks game, I wanted to tell you a little bit about a brand new company that just launched next door to Neiman Taber HQ. Hatchback Cottages is a Seattle company with a unique approach to navigating homeowners through all of the steps of building a backyard cottage.
Hatchback Cottages offers a full turnkey solution. They manage the entire process - including economic analysis, site verification, design, financing, permitting, and construction. They provide homeowners with flexible options for their future and help them maximize the value of their property. Their goal is to increase housing supply while democratizing individual homeowners' access to the housing economy.
The City of Seattle is hoping to encourage hundreds if not thousands of homeowners every year to build accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and backyard cottages (DADUs) as a way to provide plentiful family-sized rental housing opportunities in neighborhoods throughout Seattle.
