Hi Everyone,

Today is Wed March 15,   one day after the big snow storm.  Several residents, including me, have complained to the Village that their mailboxes were damaged, knocked  over and even " dragged down the road".  This is probably the  result of the Village of Old Westbury snow plows coming to close to the road.

I called the village to complain and they were told 7 other  mailboxes were damaged. If your mailbox was damaged, please contact the village and if you can ,  email us by replying to this email.

Thanks

FYI,

More info on damaged  mailboxes

Email  to Village Old Westbury, Michael Mallintino

Hi Michael

After emailing the  neighbors in Stone Arches & Horseshoe Road  I estimated about  15 % of the entire neighborhood had their mailbox damaged.   Not some random occurrence. Here are pictures of 7 of the 8 mailboxes damaged. The 8th was dragged down the street. By the way, mailboxes on Red Ground Road were also damaged. Some residents have asked if the Village will reimburse the cost of the damage? Would you be so kind as to reply to my email. And to  share this info with  the VOW Highway   staff about this mishap   and ask them to be more mindful of the curbs and mailboxes. I have also Copied my own snow   removal  contractor, Mike & Charlie Brown, on this email.

Email from  my snow contractor:

"I did see your mailbox was down when we arrived at your home.  I did notice that there  were many mailboxes knocked down during this storm, both in Old Westbury and many other towns and villages. This storm brought an extremely heavy wet snow,  due to the amount of mixing with sleet, ice and rain.  The weight of it as it was being pushed more then likely caused the large number of mailboxes to come down during this storm.  In my experience the heavy, wet, slushy mix of snow, sleet and ice tends to be more difficult to plow. Its difficult to direct where it ends up.  I know all the plow operators both public and private found this a challenging storm.  I also believe that although damages do sometimes occur,  most plow operators, especially the VIllage of Old Westbury operators to be very conscientious about minimizing any damages to both private and public property.  I can also understand your frustration of having your mailbox knocked over.
I hope this matter is resolved to your satisfaction.  Thank you for your business. "
