Subject: WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR LESLIE FASTENBERG
Dear Old Westbury Village Resident.
My name is Al Berg. I am a successful retired businessman and have been a resident of OW for over 30 years. Feel free to google me if you want to read about my experience or send me an email and we can chat. I support Leslie Fastenberg 100% for Village Trustee. Why? I have known Leslie for many years. She is smart, hardworking, and can get things done. The election in June also opened my eyes to the political machine that is running Old Westbury. And this is America and not some backwater country where Dictators and Generals rule. Or so I thought.
The Old Westbury Party is frantically running around trying to elect Andrew Weinberg so that they can continue to control our town. In one of his letters, the Mayor said that the Old Westbury Party has governed for 90 years. Is that a good thing? It certainly explains a lot. One party. One fiefdom. One tight knit group that seems to have done whatever they wanted with little oversight by most of the residents. Have you seen the Village budget and financial results for previous years? If this reflects 90 years of effort and experience, seems like a great time for a change.
Did you see their attacks on Leslie? Leslie has accomplished more in the last 90 days to awaken OW residents and get changes made than the ruling party machine has done in years. I vote for people because of their intelligence, integrity, and what they can accomplish. And Leslie has clearly proven herself in all areas.
I love the way these people run elections. How about the pattern of running Trustees for election? Getting them elected in uncontested elections. Watching them resign, only to have their replacement appointed "by the party". That is how Weinberg got his Trustee job. He was not elected. He was appointed. Cronyism at its finest. No wonder they were so upset when their handpicked Trustees lost.
Did you know that Andrew Weinberg and his attorney (and brother-in-law), Steven Schlesinger, took the position that Weinberg could be sworn in as a Trustee for a 4 year term before the recount was finished? Before the vote was finalized, they said that once sworn in, only the NY State Attorney General could remove him even though he was not even declared the winner of the election. The Roslyn Times issue of Friday, Sept 4, 2015 says:
"(Judge) Diamond also determined that the village should not have accepted a July 17th oath of office filing by Weinberg because the race's outcome was still being reviewed. Weinberg's representatives had argued that the court did not have jurisdiction because he had already taken office and began participating as a member of the village board..." Do you really want these people running OW?
The Old Westbury Party is fighting hard to save their majority. Make no mistake about it, we are up against an organized political machine that has 90 years of power and 90 years to get organized. Sending massive quantities of letters. Email blasts. Cocktail parties. Calls and calling in favors. So nice of them to finally communicate with the residents. And if you happened to fill out an absentee ballot for Weinberg and your plans have changed, you can vote on Tuesday and your machine vote will count.
We need to take back our Village. Visit NVOW.ORG to learn more. (Newvoiceofoldwestbury.org). Since the last election was declared a tie, your vote along with everyone YOU can contact this weekend is absolutely critical. THAT ONE EXTRA VOTE FOR VICTORY THIS TIME WILL BE YOUR VOTE AND YOUR FRIENDS VOTES. EVERY VOTE COUNTS! And this time, Leslie’s name is on the ballot so voting will be quick and private.
Vote for Leslie Fastenberg, on Sept 8th and have a real impact on Our future and YOUR future. Leslie stood up for us. Now we need you to stand up for Leslie. Thank you for your time.
Al Berg, formally a quiet resident of OW for 30 years
