News About An Attempted Burglary: (3/31/20)
For anyone that was awakened by helicopters flying over Old Westbury late Tuesday night (3/31/20). We are told that by various neighbors that what apparently happened is three thieves drove into our neighborhood and tried to break into a neighbor's car on Saddle Ridge.
Upon the car alarm being triggered, the resident called the police. At some point after that, the thieves drove quickly out of the neighborhood. But somewhere near the blind curve on Stone Arch Road, they rammed or collided with a police car. The officer dirving that car had a concussion and was taken to the hospital.
Then the police began a “Man-Hunt” including use of a helicopter and the police canvassing various back yards in our general neighborhood. We are told 2 of the 3 were arrested so far.
In light of this event and the potential for the societal effects of the corona virus for increased crime, its possible we may see more crime in higher end neighborhoods like ours.
While we have an top notch police force with excellent response time to calls, at some point in the near future, we may want to consider a private security guard/car at the entrance to the neighborhood, near Stone Arch Road and Hastings Rd. This would be a short term security enhancement.
I would like to get a sense of who is interested in this as there would be a cost for this, but it would likely be worth it. Please reply back with any comments.
Stay Safe,
Robert Kane
