Hi ,
I am also forwarding this email from the candidate Leslie Fastenburg who contacted me to discuss some basic improvements which she agreed should be done. These are:

1) A Revised  more lenient Tree policy for residents in good standing may cut down a few trees  (3 or so) annually without having to require permits, fees, delays and getting a certified arborist to agree that trees are dangerous.

2) Communicating with residents more transparently and effectively using technology web sites, email lists, etc.

3) Garbage pickup discounted group rate for the entire village.

4) Improved service from the village hall staff that is commensurate with the high level of taxes we pay.

5) Better transparency of major issues such as scheduling and conducting elections, the upcoming $ 15 million water project, etc.

Robert:
Couldn’t agree more!!! you and I are in complete agreement!
These issues are also at the top of my concerns.  Could go on and on about the ills of the tree regulations but you get it. In addition, the village care of the trees on the public roadways are nonexistent, creating overgrown and dangerous roadways. why?
Agree with every detail of your tree assessment. We can do better. I am sure of it.
Please add your voice to the discussion on Facebook - Feel like I am gently guiding an entire village into into social media gingerly. If you add your comments might inspire some others.

Regarding technology, our website is abysmal.  People say they have heard more solid information from me over the last 10 weeks than they have from the village over the last 20 years. The technology is available but requires both willingness and knowledge. I can bring both to the Board.

Be in touch. Happy to speak if you’d like.
all the best,
Leslie Fastenberg

thks I just looked at  the Facebook page. It doesnt tell us enough about you so I look forward to the mailing /email from you.

I live in Stone Arches and we maintain a group email list of the 40 homes in the neighborhood. To better inform the voters, i can forward your email to this list
so it goes out to everyone here.

If you want to attach your campaign to a low cost issue that shows you are in touch with the residents, then consider a platform as follows:

1) Revised Tree Policy - While the VOW  tree policy has some good features with respect to limiting builders from clear cutting trees, its also unintentionally   onerous and expensive to residents.
I have yet to speak any resident  happy with the current tree policy which  requires  to pay excessive fees and wait long periods of time  just to  cut down dead and/or dangerous trees on our own property. Why not revisit the tree policy  such that:  if a resident is in good standing with their village taxes,  they be  allowed to cut down 5   dead and /or dangerous trees annually   without being required to: pay  Village  permit fees, pay certified arborist fees to certify the dead trees are in fact dead and then wait weeks for a Village  approval. Also there is the replanting fee which can run into the tens of thousands. I know people that are fuming that they have to pay 50k .  I also believe the village may be opening itself to liability with  its policy. For example, if a tree falls and someone is injured while an application is awaiting approval,  the VOW would likely be unnecessarily sued.

2) ) Using technology to help streamline the way the Village operates for the primary benefit of  current residents. This would include  a functional website, online permit /  forms repository,  an FAQ. Also to for the VOW to create /maintain an email list for  all residents that are interested in staying in touch with VOW issues. If we had this email then the entire Village would know there was an election a few months ago. Same with current election. Notification about  an election in this  electronic era by posting a notice on the physical bulletin board is not effective.

Thanks & Good Luck

Robert

Robert,
thanks for writing.
you will be receiving same from me and more on line.
if you would like to read the background details of the campaign, it is chronicled at the New Voice of Old Westbury Facebook page -
In short, I seek a more transparent governing body, who welcomes communication and dialog.
My election will create a majority of independent thinkers on the Board of Trustees and along with newly elected Trustees Cory Baker and Marina Chimerine will deny the mayor his rubber stamp appointments and bring a fresh eyes and perspectives to our local village.
We have some major decisions a head, like the recently acknowledged 15 million dollar village water project. These are the kinds of issues where greater transparency and communication are essential to assure the residents that our village taxes are being well spent.
Additionally, hope to restore the beauty and esteem of our community, reflected in increasing property values, not declining as they are now.
Will continue to reach out in detail, but welcome the chance explain what I hope to accomplish.
Best,
Leslie Fastenberg
