Subject: Early Voting Starts TOMORROW - Vote Against Amendment One
To: Tyler McCall <

Hello Friends --
I am writing you today about a very important issue that we are facing during this primary season: Amendment One.
Many of you may know that I have been working since last September with
Neighbors for Equality and the
Coalition to Protect All NC Families to defeat this measure in order to protect ALL of North Carolina's unmarried couples and their children. Just a few weeks ago I came on as a full-time staff member with the Coalition and we are working to mobilize volunteers in Western North Carolina.
Amendment One will have far-reaching, unintended consequences, impacting over a quarter of a million of our neighbors across North Carolina. While many are painting this as a "gay marriage" issue, the amendment will do nothing more than take away a number of protections from unmarried gay and straight couples in our state.
Marriage between two individuals of the same gender is already illegal in North Carolina and Amendment One does nothing to change that.
But what Amendment One could change is the ability for unmarried couples to
secure health insurance or prescription drug benefits for their significant other or for their children. Amendment One could change the protections unmarried women have when it comes to
domestic violence issues with a partner. Amendment One could
force seniors into marriage and result in the
loss of pensions, insurance coverage, or Social Security. The amendment is unnecessary and potentially dangerous. You can learn more about the full harms of this amendment by visiting our
Protect NC Families website.
You can also watch our latest video for a quick overview of the amendment's harms.
I hope you will vote against this amendment, if for no other reason than because I am asking you as a personal favor. I hope you understand the real harms this amendment could have on our state and its families.
Now onto early voting...
Early voting is the EASIEST way to ensure your vote against this amendment is recorded!
One Stop - No Excuse Early Voting begins TOMORROW, Thursday April 19 and runs until May 5. Find your nearest early voting site and its hours with this handy tool from the NC Board of Elections.
I look forward to checking in with you again in a few days to see if you've had the chance to early vote yet. And I encourage you to forward this e-mail to others and encourage them to vote against Amendment One!
Thanks for Reading,
