Dear Neighbors,

Julie Davis and I will be participating in the Forum on the proposed new zoning code with Planning Board Chair, Francoise Carrier and Pam Dunn, Project Manager of the Zoning Rewrite.

The Forum is Wednesday, June 5th from 7 to 9 at the Silver Spring Civic Building.

Please plan to attend! The zoning code affects you and your property, and you need to be at the Forum to find out what’s going on!!

Here’s the announcement from the Silver Spring Citizens Advisory Board and PREZCO (President’s Council of Silver Spring Civic Associations):

Zoning Code Rewrite Forum - Wednesday, June 5, 7-9 pm, Silver Spring Civic Building

Do you know that Montgomery County's Planning Department has spent three years rewriting <http://montgomeryplanning.org/development/zoning/>  the county's zoning code <http://montgomeryplanning.org/development/zoning/> (go to this hyperlink to see the documents), aiming to streamline the planning and approval process for redevelopment in the county? The current zoning ordinance is over 1,200 pages in length, and while the rewrite is aimed at consolidating the code, it also proposes a number of key changes. These changes have the potential to create significant alterations to our County and need to be carefully evaluated by the public. The Planning Board approved the final draft and it now awaits its first public hearing before the County Council on Tuesday, June 11.

In advance of the Council's first hearing, please join the Silver Spring Citizens Advisory Board and the President's Council of Silver Spring Civic Associations (PREZCO) for a forum on June 5th at 7pm to discuss the zoning code rewrite from civic and government perspectives. The forum will be held at the Silver Spring Civic Building.  Featured guests will include:

  • Francoise Carrier, Planning Board Chair
  • Pamela Dunn, Planning Department Project Manager
  • Meredith Wellington, civic activist and former Planning Board Commissioner
  • Julie Davis, community member of the Zoning Advisory Panel
