NEHAWU WESTERN CAPE PROVINCE TO CONVENE ITS 16th PROVINCIAL CONGRESS

Sunday May 23, 2021

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) Western Cape Province will be convening its 16th Provincial Congress from the 25th – 27th May 2021 under the theme “Strengthen workplace organisation, deepen class consciousness and advance internationalism” in Cape Town.

 

The Congress will also make an assessment of the state of the union in the province in the past four years and plan for the next four years including electing a new leadership. The congress will also extensively discuss the international correlation of class forces, the state of the National Democratic Revolution (NDR), the crisis of neoliberalism and its agenda of austerity measures and the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic on the economy, health and education.

 

The National Treasurer, Cde Kgomotso Makhuphola, will give a keynote address to the congress, whilst leadership of the Alliance led by COSATU in the province are expected to address the delegates to the congress.

 

The congress is scheduled as follows:

 

·      Date: 25 – 27 May 2021

 

·      Time : 14h00 on the opening day which is on Tuesday May 25, 2021

 

·      Venue: Southern Sun Cape Sun, 23 Strand Street Cape Town City Centre

 

Members of the media are invited to attend and report on the official opening of the congress. For clarities and accreditation please contact the NEHAWU National Spokesperson.

 

All COVID19 Protocols have been complied with and will be implemented to the latter until the end of the congress.
