WFTU TRADE UNION INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC SERVICE & ALLIED SOLIDARITY STATEMENT ON IN SUPPORT OF PALESTINE ON THE MILITARY ATTACK ON GAZA
“Workers of the world unite you have nothing to lose but your chains”
Friday 14 May, 2021
The World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) Trade Union International Public Services and Allied (TUI PS & A) joins millions of workers and peace loving people around the world in condemning the barbaric attack and excessive use of force on civilian Palestinian by Israel.
We pledge our unreserved solidarity with people of Palestine during this difficult time. The violence which started in East Jerusalem has now escalated into a military attack on Palestinian by the 4th largest military in the world.
So far, more than 122 Palestinians have been killed including more than 31 children and hundreds injured. In Gaza, five high-rise buildings and a dozen office buildings of the Islamic National Bank were destroyed by shelling including many residential buildings that have left thousands homeless.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OCHOAPT), the Israeli attacks have also left 350 houses destroyed and hundreds of homes with moderate damage. This has resulted in the forced displacement of at least thousands of people.
The attack on Gaza is a continuation of hostilities that have been going through the illegal blockade that has been in place since 2007, that has restricted freedoms of movement as well as trading for Palestinians.
We, therefore, call upon all our members around the world to pledge solidarity with the people of Palestinians in Gaza and call upon the United Nations and all multilateral bodies to intervene and stop the killing of innocent people in Gaza.
Issued by Zola Saphetha General Secretary TUI-PS&A
