Subject: Election of NUI Chancellor

Dear graduate,

The NUI has requested that we circulate the attached notification, relating to Dr Garret FitzGerald’s announcement of his retirement as Chancellor of NUI, to our alumni. As provided by the University Statutes, the members of NUI Convocation will elect a new Chancellor at a meeting to be held on Thursday 12th March 2009. Two candidates have been duly nominated for this election; Professor James Heffron and Dr Maurice Manning.

Members of Convocation (Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, Members of Senate, Professors and Lecturers, Graduates - including Honorary Graduates - of the University) who wish to vote in the election of the NUI Chancellor, must apply to the NUI in writing. To facilitate this, a customised form may be downloaded on the NUI website. Information on both nominees is also available on this website.

The latest date for receipt of applications to vote is Wednesday 4th March 2009.

A hustings debate between the two candidates, chaired by Mark Little, will take place in Royal College of Surgeons, Dublin 2 on Wednesday 4th February, 7.30 pm.
