Attention!

Negarc Skywarn will be conducting a Snow Net Tuesday Jan. 28th. starting at 12:30 pm local time.on the Commerce repeater.(147.225+ pl 123) We will be taking checkins every hour on the half hour(12:30, 1:30, 2:30 ect.) until the event is over. Checkins will pass data to net control such as location, temperature, precipitation(rain, freezing rain, sleet, or snow) and road contitions.
Participation is not limited to Skywarn members and all amateurs are incouraged to check in. Don't feel obligated to checkin every hour. Just checkin as often as possible.
This is an excellent training opportunity. If the weather turns out to be worst than expected our reports may be of great value to NWS and local authorities.

Sorry I won't be able to play along; I'm stuck at the radio station for the State of the Union address and forgot my ht. So I've got a few thousand watts, but on the wrong frequencies!

Thanks to all who participated in yesterday's Northeast Georgia Skywarn Snow Net. Although we avoided the problems of the Atlanta Metro area as all stations reported 1 inch or less, it was great training for when the big one hits us in the future.
      Below are the stats

           Number of net cessions:    7

Avg. # of Checkins per session:   6.7

                            Max checkins:   10

              Counties Represented:    6

No Al. With snow totals an inch or less I figured they had enough to worry about. I really don't have any guidelines as to what and what not to report durning winter storms. That will be one of my questions at the skywarn coordinators meeting.

My thanks also for your participation. I was in Columbus during the snow event and I didn’t hear a single net on the primary ARES repeater in that area. I did talk with a couple of hams down there but they had no organized net – and there was some significant sleet and snow there!
