Good Morning,

Another cold front will be moving across north and central Georgia tonight. This will bring another round of showers and thunderstorms to the region, a few of these could be strong to severe. Here are the details...

Overview:

As the cold front moves into the Tennessee Valley this afternoon, showers and thunderstorms will develop ahead of it across Alabama and Tennessee. The showers and thunderstorms will move into northwest Georgia late this afternoon/early this evening, then spread across the rest of north and central Georgia tonight...exiting the region by daybreak Thursday morning.

WHAT:

Isolated strong to severe storms with the main threat being

  • damaging winds
  • hail
  • brief heavy rain

WHERE and WHEN:

Greatest risk is for north and westcentral Georgia between 8 PM and Midnight tonight. Some weakening is expected after midnight as the storms spread into central Georgia, however the risk remains for an isolated strong to severe storm. (see Graphic 1)

IMPACTS:

  • winds could down trees and powers line as well as produce minor damage to homes and businesses
  • hail could damage vegetation as well as minor damage to cars and property
  • brief heavy rain could produce localize ponding of water on roads, although rainfall amounts should remain less than 1 inch (see Graphic 2)

CONFIDENCE

  • High confidence on seeing scattered storms.
  • Medium confidence on strong to severe storms
