NEWS Youth Protection - Changes you need to know As many of you heard at the Roundtable on 14 September, Youth Protection Training (YPT) is rapidly become a "household" acronym. Several changes have occurred:
- As of September 1, 2017, all new leader applications must be accompanied with a copy of their YPT Certificate or a YPT Training Card
- Recharters at year's end WILL NOT be accepted if there is one adult on the recharter who has not taken YPT or their YPT has expired
- Parents who accompany their units on trips beyond 72 hours MUST have taken YPT in advance
- The Northeast Georgia Council, CANNOT override any of these BSA National requirements
Now for the good news... there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I plan to conduct YPT at all Roundtable meetings (during the breakout sessions) through January 2018. Additionally, I'm a one-man-mobile training team who will come to your location and conduct a YPT class; however, I want 3 or more adults attending those mobile training sessions. Each YPT session takes approximately 30 minutes. Parents are highly encouraged to take the training and are welcome in any of my classes. When your unit wants a mobile session, please contact me the week prior to get it scheduled. I'll need a date, time and location (street address and zip code). There's only ONE mobile training team, so please don't wait until recharter time to set up a Unit training session. Get YPT out of the way of other year-end requirements by doing it now. Leaders, thank you so much for all you do to support your unit, Etowah District, Northeast Georgia Council, and Scouting in general. Each of you are making positive impacts on these young folks that they'll remember the rest of their lives. Yours In Scouting, Cam Cameron B. Sutherland, Sr. District Commissioner, Etowah District 6330 Marlow Drive Cumming, GA 30041-6170 (678) 771-5657(H) (404) 295-1067(C) cbsuth...@bellsouth.net |
