Irestored a MSSQL backup to SQL Server Express in a Windows 7 virtual machine under Virtualbox. I am attempting to connect to this SQL Server instance from the host (Mac OS) using a user inside the imported database that has credentials to connect. The virtual machine is configured to use a Host-Only adapter. SQL Server express is running inside the VM at WIN7VM/SQLEXPRESS, port 1433.

I am able to connect to Apache in the VM on port 8080 from the Mac host without a problem. I can also telnet into the SQL server at port 1433 from the Mac host, using the host-only IP address (192.168.56.101).

I believe you need to use a Bridged Adapter - rather than a Host-Only adapter. A Host-Only adapter does not use the physical NIC - so that is probably the issue here. I have encountered the same issue before.Using a Bridged Network connection on both the Host and the Guest - will mean that both are on the same network. Assuming the firewall are not blocking port 1433, you should be able to connect without issue.

Microsoft has stopped the support for Windows 7 for a long time. Nowadays, many people are using Windows 10/11. However, it's possible that you need to use Windows 7 sometimes. In this case, you can create a Windows 7 virtual machine on Windows 10/11. This post from MiniTool Partition Wizard will tell you how to do that.

A virtual machine (VM) is the virtualization/emulation of a computer system. Virtual machines are based on computer architectures and provide functionality of a physical computer. If you want to run a different OS on the current operating system, creating a VM is a good choice.

As for VirtualBox and VMware, they are famous virtual machine programs. The former is totally open-source (free) while the latter is paid software. But VMware also offers the free version (VMware Workstation Player). You can choose a VM program according to you needs.

In addition, some operations like disk defragmentation cannot be performed on the partition storing the virtual machine, because that may cause the virtual machine to fail (virtual machine files are corrupted).

Therefore, I recommend you to create a partition dedicated to the virtual machine Windows 7. To do that, you can use MiniTool Partition Wizard. This software can complete this job well. Here is the guide:

Step 1: Click the above button to download and install MiniTool Partition Wizard. Launch this software and go to its main interface. Then, right-click the partition you want to shrink and choose Move/Resize from the context menu.

Step 2: In the pop-up window, drag the slider to choose how much size you want to shrink and click OK to continue. The number in the box following Unallocated Space After is the space size you reserve for the new partition.

Is this post useful to you? Which VM program are you choosing? Have you encountered problems when following the above guides? Do you know other good ways to create a virtual machine Windows 7? Please leave a comment in the following zone.

Internet works perfectly on host (Ubuntu 13.04, 32 bit, fully updated) but cannot connect to internet on guest Windows 7 (under Virtualbox 4.2).Have tried NAT and Bridge Network - none worked. I had internet connection in the guest OS a couple of months ago, but I haven't tried the virtualbox since and now it's gone for some reason. I would be grateful if someone could help me re-connect the windows OS back online (without the need to format my computer or to uninstall and re-install the guest OS).Thanks!

At that point you should be able to start a web browser in your VM and get a connection. This video provided the information I listed above, even though they are using a Windows 7 host with a Windows Server guest.

Another solution: If you are on windows Host, Go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections right click any of the Virtualbox adapter and select Diagnose, let it do its thing and if it finds some anomaly with the adapter it will give you a prompt to reset the adapter by Apply the recommended solution/changes , you opt in for that, after its done, you most probably should have the network back to normal in your virtual machine.

For wireless to work, in my machines anyway, the WiFi MAC address in Settings must match the hardware, and wlan0 must be selected (when host Internet comes through wireless).

I had the same problem with a VirtualBox VM (5.9.14) that was working previously and stopped working after a shutdown/reboot. In my case the VB option "cable connected" got disabled for some obscure reason.Enabling that again made everything work again (no need for promiscuous mode in this case since I'm not doing anything requiring this - no WireShark or anything of that kind)Bottom line: do not assume that the Network configuration for your VM is correct. If you have problems, review that part of the configuration.

I ended up finding that my issue was in regards to my Network Center. Ensure that the wifi you are connected to is sharing internet, with the VirtualBox wifi adapter. This configuration is under the adapter settings in Network and Sharing Center.

We recently purchased a new development machine with Win7 64 bit. In our efforts to migrate to that machine we have discovered issues with using CCS 3.3 on that operating system with a specific emulator (There are no 64bit drivers for the emulator we use, Wintech TDS560). To get around this I have installed VMWare 7.1 and setup an XP SP3 virtual machine. I was able to get CCS 3.3 SR12 installed correctly in the VM and was able to connect the computer to the target board via the emulator successfully.

The problem is, when I try to program the processor with the "F28xx On-Chip Flash Programmer" plug in the "program" and "verify" stages are extremely slow. On the same machine (win7 x64) I have CCS 3.3 SR12 installed outside of the virtual machine (under win7) and using a different emulator with drivers that support 64 bit (the Blackhawk XDS100v2D) and everything works fine. It takes roughly 30 seconds to a minute to do the entire erase/program/verify cycle using the XDS100 in Win7, but up to TWENTY MINUTES to do the same using the TDS560 under the windows XP VM.

It's not just that it's slow either, but CCS actually stops responding to mouse and keyboard input for about 60 seconds between each update of the program/verify progress bar. I can minimize CCS when it's doing this and use anything else in the OS (virtual machine) normally.

I am not sure this is the right place to ask this, but I imagine if I posted this on the VMWare support forums they would have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm just wondering if anyone here has any idea what might be wrong or if anyone has ever tried this same thing before.

I have a similar setup as yours (Win7/64 and Windows Virtual PC with a XP SP3 on it) and the success of the connection seems to be heavily dependent on the brand of the emulator used. A XDS100 works ok under it (although a bit slower), but a SD XDS510USB did not connect at all. I don't have the Wintech emulator you have, but I can imagine its operation may be affected by that.

Unfortunately I think it may simply be an inherent issue with virtual machines and its interaction with certain hardware devices, or the emulator manufacturer may have additional mechanisms to identify and perform data verification. In your case I suggest you to contact Wintech and check their plans to support 64-bit OSs.

One thing to try is to see if your XDS100v2 works ok in your VM setup. If it does, then Rafael's comment about the brand of emulator being a factor in terms of success in a VM environment is coming into play here.

I am going to need to install Revit 2021 in my workstation at home soon. I have a dual boot box linux/windows7. I see in the system requirements that Revit 2021 is supporting only windows 10 and I would really prefer to avoid the hassle to upgrade from win-7 and I really dont like win 10. The question is there is any reason for Revit 2021 to not run on a fully updated win7? there is anybody there running this app in win7?

the second question is. if I have no other option than windows 10 I would really prefer to do a win10 virtualmachine (VmWare) in the linux host instead to upgrade a windows 7 partition. It is there anybody with this type of set up? How is the performance of Revit on Vmplayer or Vmworkstation?

NOTE: This is some advanced stuff and you may lose a finger. No warranty express or implied. There's always workarounds somewhere on the 'tubes, but this stuff works only in Win7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. Be afraid.

I use a lot of Virtual Machines. I've used VMWare, VirtualBox, HyperV and Virtual PC. Recently, since all my machines have been updated to Windows 7 RC, I've downloaded Windows Virtual PC so I could use "Virtual XP." I've got a lot of VHD (Virtual Hard Drive Files) around now.

I'm just not willing to install VS2010 Beta 1 on bare hardware just now, as I know I'll want to put the Next Beta on a clean machine. I *could* sacrifice an extra machine, but I'd rather use the main machine I always use. I want less virtual, more machine.

With Windows 7 I can mount VHD and use them like regular hard drives. Just type in "Disk Management" from your start menu. From the Action menu I can select "Create VHD" or "Attach VHD." Below I'd just attached a 7 GIG VHD file that thinks it's a 40 gig hard drive. Notice that the disk icon is blue. This is a really convenient way to just "pass a hard drive around as a file" as well as a nice way to get files on and off VMs that aren't running.

Assuming you already have a Windows 7 installation, you can boot off the Windows 7 DVD, and when it gets to "Install Now" click "Repair Your Computer." Don't select an installation, then select Command Prompt. (You can also press Shift-F10) to open a command prompt.
