The VIRT2UE Train the Trainer program is aimed at researchers and educators from different disciplines who want to become trainers in Research Integrity. The training takes a virtue-based approach and supports participants in reflecting on their understanding of, and own positions towards, research integrity. This is because aircraft doors have a type-specific design and therefore require unique opening/closing procedures. Because cabin crew must be provided with the specific safety training for the aircraft type(s) they are flying, SkyArt provides the most realistic environment for that purpose.

Door trainers simulate normal functions of the aircraft door(s), as well as any possible malfunctions (including custom malfunctions you can define), so the crew is prepared for any circumstance at all times. This is a compulsory requirement implemented by the governing bodies of the civil aviation industry.

The A320 Door & Owe Trainer simulates door system operation both in normal and emergency conditions. There is a functional 1L door and 1 OWE in the device and the doors are genuine (with the occasional 1:1 scale replica) designed to simulate real-world malfunctions. The device also includes a fully equipped cabin attendant station (CAS), the CIDS system and functional Front Attendant Panel, cabin lighting, live and pre-recorded announcements, passenger service units.

The Cabin Attendant Panel (CAP) will be installed above the crew seats near the Main Entry Door 1L. The original Boeing interface will be used in CAP display screens. It's touch-sensitive display enables the user to effortlessly select cabin control functions. Additionally, There will be an interphone handset included with the device

The B 787 Cabin Interior Lighting System will be planned and built according to the original blueprints. Low energy consumption LED lighting will be used in the cabin and installed using clear tube protection. This lighting is connected to the Attendant Control Panel as well as the Instructor Operating Station and can be fully adjusted in less than five seconds.

B737-800 NG Door Trainer simulates door system operation both in normal and emergency conditions. There is a functional 1L door in the device and the door is genuine or a replica with simulated malfunctions. The device also includes a bonus cabin crew station, intercommunication system and functional ACP.

RP Aero Systems is pleased to announce it has been awarded a contract by Flight Safety International to upgrade an existing Embraer E1 trainer originally built by RP to the new E2. The upgraded Extended Door Trainer will be delivered to a European based training centre in the first half of 2018.

RP Aero Systems is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a contract by Portugalia Airlines to manufacture and install an Embraer E1 Extended Door Trainer at their Training Centre, Lisbon, Portugal. The Trainer will consist of a 1L main door, overwing exit and escape slide. The Door Trainer will be mounted on a support structure and feature two rows of passenger seats, window visuals and malfunctions scenarios.

RP Aero Systems is pleased to announce it has been awarded a contract by Horizon Air Industries (part of the Alaska Air Group) to manufacture and install an Embraer E175 Extended Door Trainer on an elevated platform at their Training Centre in Portland, Oregon, USA,. The trainer will comprise a fully functional 1L Passenger Door with attendant seat and local monuments, featuring RPs standard Autoclose and Out of the Window visuals. Doors 1R and 2L will also be installed in a short length of cabin to provide an environment suitable for cabin procedures and evacuation training. A communications system and a Tulmar training slide will also be installed.

Boeing is in talks with the US Federal Aviation Administration and other regulatory authorities to allow pilots to transition to the 787 from the 777 without having to go through a full-flight simulator.

"It is a challenging goal," says 787 training director Alfred Nader, who adds: "We're taking advantage of new training and teaching methodology to come up with a revolutionary training system for a revolutionary new aircraft." The system, being developed with Boeing's full-service airline training subsidiary Alteon, will include more advanced computer-based training (CBT) that is linked to full-flight simulators, and touchscreen, flat-panel trainers that will replace traditional CBT. "Desktop simulators will also replace traditional maintenance-based trainers," says Nader.

Using a mixture of CBT, scenario-based training and flat-panel simulators instead of the current fixed-base and full-flight simulators, Boeing believes the transition from 777 to 787 could be accomplished in five days. "We think it's do-able," says Nader, who adds: "We've talked with the authorities and it could be achievable."

To aid transition, Boeing is designing the standard flightdeck to incorporate dual head-up-displays, electronic flight bags and logbooks, as well as GPS-guided precision approach capability with a required navigation performance of 0.1nm (0.18km). The flightdeck is designed for "mixed-fleet flying" and to make conversions relatively straightforward for crews coming from other Boeing types, particularly those with glass cockpit displays from the 757/767.

Crews coming to or from the Next Generation 737 and 757/767 will require eight days of "differences" training, while 10 days will be needed for crews transitioning from the 747-400 to the 787. The current transition time from non-Boeing types is 21 days. "We are looking at shortening that time from Airbus types to the 787 and any Boeing aircraft," Nader adds.

To aid the planning and approval process, Boeing and Alteon have developed a pilot qualification plan (PQP) and a separate mechanic qualification plan (MQP). The PQP was first used for the 737NG, while the MQP "is a first for us" says Nader.

Before they can be put into service for flight crew training, flight simulation devices must be certified by the National Aviation Authority of each territory in which they will be used. They are rated on a scale from A to D (D being the highest), based on their fidelity to the real aircraft.

The Thales Boeing 787 training suite includes a full-flight simulator, flat panel trainers and desktop simulation systems. The Boeing 787 simulator is currently rated as an Interim Level C, the highest fidelity possible with the existing aircraft data. As soon as the final data package is available from Boeing, when the aircraft enters service, the simulator will then move to Level D. At level D, following time in this simulator, a pilot can step into a new aircraft type without ever having had a training flight in that aircraft.

Boeing Flight Services (BFS) offers eight locations around the world that provides pilot, maintenance, composite and cabin crew training. Around the world, Boeing offers 80 flight simulators (eight are for the 787). The locations for the 787 training facilities are located in London, Singapore, Shanghai, Tokyo and of course Seattle. We recently had the opportunity to take a behind the scenes look at the pilot training part of the BFS facility located south of Seattle,WA.

Currently, Boeing has orders for 873 787 Dreamliners. For each new aircraft that gets delivered, there need to be pilots, technicians and flight crew that require training. Boeing works with their airline customers to provide a customized training package. They can choose to have their entire staff trained, or just a handful of trainers who return to the carrier armed with all the knowledge they need.
