Hi all....  I was contacted this morning by the School Committee chair asking if I could appoint someone to the Newman alternatives working group.  This is a group that is being set up by the School Committee with members of the School Committee, Selectmen, Finance Committee, and other people with a specific interest in our public schools.  The intent of the group is to discuss and document possible approaches to renovating Newman, including all the possibilities like using High Rock, making it a middle school, going to K-6, etc.  The group is, according to Michael Greis, not expected to do much research/work itself -- he claims all the work on the above is mostly done elsewhere already -- but is intended to hash out the issues associated with various options and produce a written report/presentation by early March so the Town as a whole can get a better understanding of the pros and cons of different approaches.

The group will meet every 2 weeks early in the morning, like say 8-9:30, from later in December through February.  The goal is to have the meetings tightly bounded so the members can move on to the rest of their day.

This message is a solicitation of interest.  If you wish to serve on this working group, please let me know.  You should note that this work exactly coincides with FinCom's busy season, and you must be able to free up multiple mornings.  Louise is going to be serving independently as an informed Town employee, but we get to appoint a FinCom member as well.  If multiple people are interested, I'll pick someone.  I could also just appoint myself, but I'm thinking right now that that's unwise because of the time commitment.
