New student here - I've just upgraded to Win11, and can no longer dock/undock any of the windows in the interface. For example, I click on the Channel Box editor at top right - the Channel box pops out in its own window (and not docked at the right of the screen). When I try to dock it to the right side of the Maya interface, I'm not able to - Win11 seems to treat it as an entirely different program instead (so I'll get the option display on the left of my monitor, with the Maya interface on the right, etc.

I am a running Maya 2016 and 2018 on both windows and Mac operating systems. When I create a file in Mac and try to open it in windows sometimes the file the file is not recognized as a Maya file (.ma or .mb) and vice versa, sometimes when I create a file on windows and open it on Mac the same issue occurs.

sometimes I create a Maya file on Mac side, and sometimes I create a file on windows Maya. Sometimes my partner creates a file on her widows and then these issues come up when I open them on my windows or Mac side.

I have tried copying parts of the model into new files and saving new, exporting as .obj, as well as importing into new files, as well as saving as .mb and .ma from both windows and Mac versions and still encounter these issues.

So here is the thing: whenever I start a fresh Maya, it always opens all the windows I used recently. So lets say I unwrapped something and had a torn off copy of my rendercam and an outliner window open, the same windows pop up whenever I open a fresh Maya. Just deleting the pref folder can't be the solution, I don't want to configure all my shelfs evertime I start up Maya. So does anyone know a solution for this, maybe a setting somewhere that Maya just opens with the Main- and Output window?

I've used PyQt4 in maya quite a bit, and generally I've found it quite easy to switch to PySide, but I'm having trouble getting the pointer to the main window. Perhaps someone can understand what's going wrong.

If you want to reset all your window preferences then you can just delete (or move to a backup location) windowPrefs.mel and maya should recreate it for you with defaults when it launches. The same is true for the entire prefs folder afaik.

Yup, I used to do that, but I found having to quit / delete / restart maya everytime I discovered the UV texture window was hiding on a disabled screen was quite a disruptive work flow, so now I just have the script hooked up to a menu.

No I remember Maya 2010 behaving like it should on osx. if you minimized a window it would stay minimized. If you had multiple windows open they would stay hidden if you single clicked on the main maya ui as oppose to 2012 where every windows goes on top.

My use case was to simply check several version of a rig without having to open maya which is slow. This viewer does not show skeleton, or skin weights nor does it has a outliner view of the scene (e.g. showing the hierarchy of bones). So this does not allow me to distinguish various rigs. For a viewer it feels quite incomplete and should show more informations present in the scene IMHO, at the very list textual description would be welcomed.

I have been trying to play an animation in fbx review, but have some issue with this. I have keyed the material in maya and then exported as fbx and opened it in fbx review. it plays animations perfectly but my keyed material/shader is missing, it becomes black. I tried with texture also, but same problem. my question is why textures are not visible when you fbx in fbx review and some of the animations are also not playing. I exported fbx from Maya LT.

I installed the plugin via the Omniverse app so I assume it installed cleanly although I could try installing again. Initially I started Maya 2020.4 and loaded the omniverse usd plugin and it failed to load with a generic plugin initialisation failed error. I searched the forums here and found a thread about first unloading the maya-usd plugin which as on auto-load in my case. So, I turned that off and restarted Maya and verified that maya-usd plugin was not loaded anymore. Then I tried to load the omnivores plugin and ran into the error message attached in my first post.

Thanks a ton Aron and TJ! The issue is resolved now! I think previously I was only unloading the mayausd plugin and not the hydra plugin which was causing the issue. Its working as expected now. Thank you very much! Looking forward to omniverse!

I had problems installing the license for Windows10, maya 2017 finaly i installed it that way:
1) deleting al ziva .lic files from drive c:\
2) manually setting locally administered mac adress in network card settings
3) setting environment variable path to C:\Program Files\Ziva\VFX in system settings.
4) uninstalling ziva, launching ziva installer as administrator
5) placing license in folder C:\Program Files\Ziva\VFX\Ziva-VFX-Maya-Module\ZivaVFX-Maya-1_619\plug-ins\win2017
