Hi fellow colleagues in the journey of following Jesus and leading others in following Jesus!
For those who don't know Dallas Willard, he died in May 2013. He was regarded as a leading Evangelical thinker and practitioner on Christian Spirituality and Discipleship to Jesus. He worked most of his life as an academic in philosophy, regarded as one of the leading modern moral philosophers. He came to SA five times, and Gill and I were honoured to personally host him in our home and, together with Trevor Hudson, have him lead retreats and conferences.
I came across this attached article of Dallas Willlard - his brief biographical account on his work to his colleagues in university circles. It's his reflection (2 pages) on his work and life, which I find utterly profound, and so very true. I have sought to, and really want to continue to, do my work and live my life just like that! The simple values of Jesus, as in gentleness, pure humility, total dependance on God (more accurately, conscious cultivation of working with God by HIS enabling grace beyond our human abilities), attention to detail and thoroughness, faithful diligence and perseverance... they all shine brightly in Dallas! He was a true exemplary follower of Jesus - and still is in eternity, face to face with Jesus!
I am simply sharing this with you because, for me, it communicates the true spirit of what we're about as followers of Jesus, and especially as spiritual leaders.
