Usuallythis is the process i would use to edit my tags.
I would go to File then Change Directory
Open where the album is at.
I would select all the files and edit common fields IE: Album, artist etc
Then i would click away so the program could save the changes.
Afterward I would go back and edit each file individually for fields like track name etc
and thats it.
The strange thing i havent booted up my pc for a month went to windows media to make some changes to some new songs i got and behold the oddest thing. All my songs names had been switched with other track names. Now all my songs have the incorrect information and i have to go back and re edit everything. Is this a known bug? Is their something i can do to prevent this. Now i am going back and select all the songs and before i do anything i hit X to erase all previous information. sad that i have to redo everything.
WMP only reacts to changes or when forced to re-read directories.
Add your music folders to WMPs set of watched folders.
WMP detects changes when it is open while you edit the tracks.
If you have made changes while WMP was not open, re-scan the watched folders (press F3).
But are the tags OK? If there are, I would delete the WMP database and the next time you open it there will be a new empty database. Then add your files back into the library and the database will be rebuilt with the correct data.
Some applications like the media center rely on WMP and there is no use to revert to a different program. So you have to cope with the "features" of WMP.
Still, I agree with you that WMP sometimes has a certain stubbornness to accept the right data for the right tracks and a new start is then the best remedy.
If you use Windows you're pretty much stuck with WMP. It does do a few things well, it's a fairly good video player and it's OK at streaming audio. It's the database that's awkward to work with. WMP 10 wasn't too bad, but it's gone down hill since. Another weak part of WMP is CD burning, it just doesn't work that well.
There are a lot of music database programs that are much better. I mentioned MediaMonkey but there's also Winamp, foobar2000, Quintessential Media Player, jetAudio Basic, MusicBee and Jaangle. Any of these programs are better than WMP.
Does anybody else hate this app as much as I do? I would love to have the one I used to install on XP and Windows 7. It was so compact and complete. Seems like more and more programs are detoriating rather than getting better. Oh well.... Just venting.
My main issue, though, is that it asks me to signon anew each time I open the app. How do I get it to stop doing this? I used to be able to sign into my account once (in the app) and not have to do so subsequently. TIA.
Using Pandora since 2009. Reset system and account. Used to have a small 3x4 inch black box with album cover and song title. Now its a window and only shrinks to bigger 5 or 6 inch rectangle with 50% wasted blank space. Can I recover or get that older app thing? Using Win10 and have the new multi-colored Quick-start P. (Used to be a tiny white box with a blue P).
Outstanding idea, bring back the old, minimalist player screen. Don't try and cram all the bells and whistles into what was designed as a simple station player with minimal screen presence. Stick with the KISS principle of design. Make the old PandoraOne app a user installation choice. The new desktop app doesn't do much more than the web page and a shortcut could do.
Good morning, because there are many of us who have expressed a return of the desktop player I wanted to ask everyone a question. If it was available as an option for a small added fee would any of you opt to take advantage of that? I would because the player was the way I found new music and new artists. I never open the page that is available now. I always just go to Pandora on my iPhone and go to my collection. I never usually explore unless there is an artist I have heard on Instagram. Lets start a discussion on this if any or would opt to pay more to have the desktop player. I have decided that I would, but not more than $5. Thanks, Ollie
It sounds like you're referring to the Pandora One Desktop application that was available in the past. We no longer support that compact desktop player. However, we now have a Pandora Desktop app for MAC and Windows computers.
What happened to the old Pandora one desktop app? This new one that you have to download from the window store S U C K S. The whole point of a desktop app was to use less memory then having it play in your web browser. All this new app is, is a smaller web browser window that still takes 200+ mb . Thank god I was able to find my old desk stop app that only takes 53mb. This is new update is dumb, bring back the old player!
Had a little snafu the other day and after a bunch of attempts i relented and reinstalled windows keeping the old files. Fixed the snafu, i have sound again, but i lost my old Pandora One app, the one that was built on Adobe Air. I know there is the win store version but its huge (for no reason) and blue... So far i haven't managed to find it on the internet anymore. Anyone got a link to the good old stuff?
I understand how loved the compact desktop player was but it's no longer available. Feel free to check out the accepted solution if you're interested in installing our newer desktop app.
Found an old install on a old computer of mine, copied the entire folder as is and it just works. Gonna have to store the whole thing on google drive or something to future proof this same thing ever happening again. Probably need to put adobe air install with it just in case that also becomes impossible to find.
I have two PC's here at our shop that I play media on (local not streaming) 24/7 via windows media player. The one is a windows 8 in our break-room that I have a playlist of 394 short avi videos that it plays. The other is a windows 7 that has a big music playlist it goes through. Both are set to "random" and "repeat" but they both will randomly just stop every once in awhile when switching songs/videos. Sometimes they'll stop within an hour (more so the videos), and sometimes they'll play most of the day and be stopped when I come in the next morning. I figured this was something simple so it's driving me nuts that I haven't figured it out.
I have never been at the screen when it stops, but when it does stop it's just the way it would stop when it's done playing something if "shuffle" and "reapeat" were not on. So I then have to push play again and it will continue playing the playlist until it decides it's done again.
So I switched from WMP to VLC. VLC ,although presented the same issue, made it more apparent what the issue was. I had a couple media files in my playlist that were "corrupt". The only difficult thing is when you have a big playlist, like we do, is VLC has to "attempt" to play the file before you know if it is corrupt. VLC also offers to fix these files which was nice.
It's possible that playback is stopped because the screen saver/standby/hibernate is kicking in, so I suggest that you check the power saving settings. Unchecking Stop playback when switching to a different user in WMP's Options may also help.
Windows media player is exposed as an activex control that any scripting language running in the windows script host should be able to access. You should be able to use jscript to control it. Jscript is microsofts implimentation of java script. For information on what objects and methods are availble using jscript for windows media player se this link.
There is no open JavaScript library as far as I know for crossbrowser clientside handling of a WMP player. However, this link should make it quite easy for you to start your own little library. The code might need some updating and testing in modern browser versions but you have the basics there.
The library your searching for would be a great idea for a Google Code project, I guess that while everyone today is using Adobe Flash with sIFR / swfobject or Microsoft Silverligt with sistr etc, there are not much interest to write clientside script controlling for WMP.
With the Windows Fall Creators Update (Windows version 1709), Microsoft is starting to phase out the SMB v1 protocol due to its security issues. Is SMB v1 being used by the WD TV Live Streaming Media Player to access media files on Windows hard drives (LAN sharing)? If so, without a firmware update supporting SMB v2 and/or V3, a Windows update to 1709 would brick the media player for me.
I have Wi-Fi / Ethernet issues which turned out to partially resolvable (re-terminated the Ethernet cable). Alas, I also have to disable Wi-Fi on my router to get an Ethernet connection (it always connectsWi-Fi even tho I manually enter the wired parameters.
Facebook is dead for me as is my YouTube logon. However, NetFlix still works - which was my main concern for firing up WDTVLive again (I finally bought a Rii8+ keyboard). Not sure if I will keep NetFlix.
I too am now having a problem with my WD Live unit since my desktop computer updated to MS Windows 10 Fall Creators. I have tried everything to have my WD unit see my external drives with no success. It does see my computer and the files on it when I go to video media servers, however when I go to video network shares nothing happens.
After trying endless ways around the windows 10 update problem when trying to see network shares on my WD Live, I just reverted back to an earlier windows 10 build. The WD now works as it should. I also stopped Windows 10 from updating itself until I hear and see on an update that repairs the WD issue.
In a nutshell, unless you are running Windows 10 Pro, you already have SMB v1 installed, and the wind is blowing NNE, installing the Fall upgrade, you run the risk of SMB v1 turned off/not installed/uninstalled after a time of unuse (flip a coin and pick a consequence).
Can you avoid this calamity. Well, if you have Windows 10 Pro, you can go into the bowels of the OS and turn on a setting that postpones the Fall update for a while, but eventually that will bite you in the ass. And for that duration, you accept that your computer will be at risk.
