Theme:

We are living in a Converged Media world. Text, image, audio and video information, displayed on all screens (big and small), delivered via all digital technologies (wired and wireless), are beaming into our conscience all the time. Media convergence has profoundly impacted consumers' way of receiving and interacting with information and entertainment. It also changes the business' way of creating and disseminating information for their targeted consumers.  

NECINA's Multimedia Convergence Conference invites distinguished speakers from the industry, academia and the VC community to will examine rapidly changing landscape of Media. What are the enabling technologies behind the media convergence and how can we adapt and find opportunities in the age of Converged Media?

Speaker bios:

David Fellows, Former CTO of Comcast Corporation, General Partner at Genovation Capital

Dave was most recently Chief Technology Officer of Comcast where he was responsible for the company's 15,000 engineers and technicians, a $6 Billion annual budget, and creating the architecture that delivers television, broadband and voice (the Triple Play) to more than 25 Million Americans. In his role as CTO of Comcast, he was involved in more than 30 investments made by Comcast and Comcast Interactive Capital, the venture arm of Comcast. As CTO of ATT Broadband, he was intimately involved in the merger with Comcast in 2002.

Prior to being CTO of Comcast and AT&T Broadband, Dave was a Co-Founder and General Partner of Pilot House Ventures. Dave made 10 investments during the 4 years from 1999 through 2002, investing more than $100M and delivering a top decile IRR during the toughest technology venture market in history.

Dave was the previous President of Scientific Atlanta's Transmission business from 1992-1995 where he delivered much of the technology used in both the satellite and cable industries to deliver video. He began his career at GTE where he quickly rose through the ranks to undertake roles including Vice President of Technology and Vice President of R&D.

An Olympian, Dave was the Captain of the 1976 Olympic Rowing Team and today remains one of technologies most sought after speakers presenting to more than 200 audiences in the last 10 years. He was named Communications Engineering and Design Man of the Year, was Telephony magazine's fiber optic visionary, and won the Vanguard Award for Technology - the Cable industry's highest award. He was also head of the CableLabs Technical Advisory Board, and a member of CableLabs' Board of directors.

Conrad Clemson, founder and CEO, BNI Video

Conrad is the founder and CEO of BNI video, a video platform provider for cable, telecommunications and wireless industries. Conrad is responsible for the management and strategic vision of BNI. Earlier in his career, Conrad served as a senior director of engineering at Motorola, which he joined in the fall of 2006 through the acquisition of Broadbus Technologies. Conrad was senior vice president for technical operations at Broadbus from 2002-2006, and before that was vice president of engineering at Gotham Networks, and a vice president of engineering at Lucent Technologies.

Jim Dolce, CEO, Verivue

As Chief Executive Officer, Jim Dolce is responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of Verivue. Previously, he was Executive Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations for Juniper Networks, where he led the company's global sales, marketing, customer service and partner management. He joined Juniper in July 2002 through the acquisition of Unisphere Networks, where as President and CEO he guided the growth and eventual sale of the company. Before Unisphere, he served as founder and President of Redstone Communications, which he sold to Siemens in 1999. Before Redstone he was Vice President and General Manager of the remote access business unit of Cascade Communications, now Lucent. He joined Cascade in 1996 through the acquisition of Arris Networks, another Massachusetts-based company he founded in 1995. He also founded Promptus Communications in 1989, a manufacturer of digital network access products. He received his BS in electronic computer engineering from the University of Rhode Island.

Robert Corace, President, Objectiva Software

Robert Corace is the President of Objectiva Software Solutions and is responsible for overseeing the company's rapid growth, global sales, marketing, and operations. His duties also include Chief Client Officer for Objectiva's strategic accounts. Robert is also leading the charge in the mobile convergence space as Objectiva's clients deal with the need to combine high fidelity content, richer user experience, and cross-platform deployment. Robert is a proven industry sales, delivery, and technology leader in the software, mobility, e-commerce and financial services industries.

Robert joined Objectiva from Symphony Services. Over four years there he led strategic consulting and the financial services, E-commerce and Information Services business units. Corace joined the company in 2006 as part of its acquisition of VMOplus, a consultancy specializing in globalization, SaaS and SOA, where he was founder and CEO. Prior, he held operational, sales and technical management positions at Thomson Reuters, PricewaterhouseCoopers, IBM, W.R. Grace and Co., and Office Depot.

Jeff Binder (panelist), General Partner at Genovation Capital

Jeff co-founded Genovatoin Capital with David Fellows and Vin Bisceglia. Jeff was most recently a senior executive with Motorola, serving as Senior Director Strategy and M&A and GM of its On Demand Solutions group. In addition to day-to-day operations of the 150+ person on-demand solutions group with offices in the US, Europe and Asia, Jeff spearheaded several key initiatives within the office of the CEO, as well as driving the companies worldwide on-demand video business and M&A strategy. Jeff has been named as, one of eight Next Generation Leaders by MultiChannel News, Top 100 Heavy Hitters by CableFax Magazine and one of 40 under 40 by the Boston Business Journal.

Prior to Motorola, Jeff founded Broadbus Technologies, which was sold to Motorola in 2006 for nearly $200 Million. Broadbus pioneered the concept of television on-demand using advance memory technology and became the leading supplier of video streams in 2006.

Prior to Broadbus, Jeff was Chairman and CEO of the Leading Golf Companies from 1996-2000, then the largest marketing and technology network of high-end golf courses in North America including Mauna Lani, Pebble Beach and Pinehurst. LGC was an outgrowth of incubator Nanosoft, which was an offshore development start-up founded by Jeff 1995 to incubate young technology companies in China.
