We are honored to have Ms. Rose Lee Askin, senior VP of East
West Bank, who will share her experience and insights on how to work with a
bank for start-up companies. Dr. Yi Qian, a senior director at GSI group, who
will share his experience and advice on new product development for start-up
business. Our star of NECINA Entrepreneur Programs Mr. Eddy Zhong, who was the
winners of both YES and NEW in the past, will share his real life success story
and answer any questions NEW teams may have from a young entrepreneur point of
view. Lastly, Director of NEW1.0 and NEW 2.0 Tony Tian will give an overview of
NEW1.0 and NEW2.0 with examples of success stories of NEW teams in the last two
years. Tony will introduce the MiTi
Venture where is he is founding partner.
The
final 8 NEW 2014 teams will present again on the sixth NEW meeting with their
updates and questions on finance and business operation.

Rose
Lee Askin:
Rose is a Senior Vice
President with East West Bank’s New England region. With over $27 billion in
total assets and a market capitalization of $5.2 billion, East West Bank is
currently ranked within top 25 public banks in the U.S. Rose is responsible for
developing and servicing commercial banking relationships with middle market
companies, including inbound Chinese companies for the New England region. With
over 20 years of extensive banking experience, she has successfully assisted
multinational companies, large and midsize Chinese enterprises, as well as U.S.
domestic companies with their international expansion, streamlining their
financial platform, and cross border financing needs. Prior to her current
role, Rose headed RBS Citizens’ China Initiative, managing its cross border
banking business between the U.S. and Greater China. Rose has experiences
working in both the U.S. and Asia, and gained an in-depth understanding of both
marketplaces and business cultures. She was previously with Bank of Boston’s
Hong Kong and Los Angeles offices, where she worked with local Hong Kong
manufacturers and later helped Asian multinationals establish locations in the
U.S. Rose was born in Shanghai, China and she speaks multiple Chinese dialects
fluently.
Dr. Yi Qian:
Dr. Yi Qian has about twenty years of leadership
experience developing technologies and managing products/customers in startups
and large international corporations for medical, industrial and teleco
market. Most recently he was heading the product management and marketing
at Cambridge Technology of GSI Group that makes lasers and 2D/3D precision
optical scanning devices and systems. He spent six years with Corning (through
Lasertron acquisition) designing and selling industry leading high power diode
lasers; and more than two years with Oclaro, where he managed advanced
40Gps/100Gps optical transponder products for optical communication networks.
As a funding team member, he was VP Engineering in a startup (Dimensional
Photonics International – acquired by Danaher Dental) that successfully
developed large scale 3D industrial laser scanning system and miniature
real-time 3D digital medical imaging and sensing system. He was also a VP
for a bioprocessing equipment startup selling into worldwide pharmaceutical
companies. Dr. Qian did his postdoctoral research at
Cornell University. He earned his Ph.D. in physics from the Institute of
Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and his bachelor's degree in
Electrical Engineering from Zhejiang University. He has ten issued or pending
patents and more than 45 publications.
Eddy Zhong:
Winner of NECINA YES and NEW final competition in 2014. Founder of Blanc
Inc. (wearblanc.com). Successful
entrepreneur who was featured on FOX Business Channel, The Wired, The Gadget
Show, The Daily Dot and many media when he was still in high school.
Tony Tian
Tony is a founding partner at MiTi Venture, an
early-stage investment company based in Cambridge, and director of incubator
MiTi Workshop. He is passionate about working with up and coming entrepreneurs
and helping take these ideas to successful businesses. His primary investment
areas include mobile health, intelligent devices and data analytic. Tony
co-founded NECINA NEW incubator in 2012, to encourage professionals and
students experiment new ideas at early stage. Under his watch, multiple
businesses advance from concept to Series A and continue to grow. He
successfully raised fund for a new SAAS B2B sales platform backed by Intel
Service Capital back in 2011 and led the team successfully through concept and
received excellent customer traction in this Intel pilot.
Tony is an industry veteran in Internet of Things
with proven track record in high volume product market success. His focus areas
include communications, intelligent devices, and how these devices connect data
and people. He is passionate about contributing to the community and building
startups. Products he contributed and played important roles include Intel(R)
IXP425, IXP2350 network processors, Intel(R) 89xx Communication Chipset, and
Intel(R) Xeon and Core processors and Intel(R) Atom C2xx Processors in Embedded
and Communication Space. He is also an influencer in hardware/software
co-design practice at corporate level and marketing lead for Intel Virtual
Platform for Communications & Storage devices.
