MIT Enterprise Forum Cambridge Event - 09/16
Preparing for & Competing with the 'Tech Titans of China'

Last August, the Economist argued that there is a new geography of innovation in a cover story titled, "Peak Valley." Looming large in this new geography is China. They've transformed their economy from that of a low-cost manufacturer to a cutting-edge innovator. With their "9-9-6" de facto weekly work schedule, China's tech companies are relentless in their pursuit of success, and it shows.

In this fireside chat, Rebecca Fannin, an expert on China, journalist, speaker and author of the new book  "Tech Titans of China: How China's Tech Sector is challenging the world by innovating faster, working harder, and going global," will sit down with serial entrepreneur, professor, innovation consultant, angel investor, board member and startup mentor Mike Grandinetti for a fireside chat to discuss:
  • The US-China tech race
  • Which Chinese tech companies are making waves
  • The Tech sectors that matter most in China's grab for superpower status
  • What US startup founders can learn from Chinese founders

Join us on September 16th and come ready with your questions for Rebecca, who has the inside scoop on the ammunition venture capitalists, startup founders, and others impacted by -- or interested in -- cashing in on the Chinese tech industry need to prepare and compete.

Speakers

  Rebecca Fannin

Rebecca is a leading expert on global innovation. As a technology writer, author and media entrepreneur, she began her career as a journalist covering venture capital from Silicon Valley. Following the VC money, she became one of the first American journalists to write about China's entrepreneurial boom, reporting from Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Today, Rebecca pens a weekly column for Forbes and is a special correspondent for CNBC.com. Rebecca's journalistic career has taken her to the world's leading hubs of tech innovation, and her articles have appeared in Harvard Business Review, Fast Company and Inc., and Techonomy.

 Mike Grandinetti

Mike has been continuously active in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship since earning his engineering degree. He went on to earn his MBA degree with distinction at Yale. He began his career in Silicon Valley and has spent his entire career as a practitioner in the world's leading innovation clusters of Silicon Valley, Boston, Austin, and Tel Aviv. He is a successful serial VC-backed C-level tech entrepreneur, award-winning professor, innovation consultant, angel investor, board member, hackathon leader, keynote speaker, and startup mentor.

As an innovation consultant, Mike has worked with corporate clients including Accenture, AT&T, Dell, Ferrari, Intuit, Maersk, naviHealth, Novo Nordisk, Nestle, Pirelli, SAB Miller, and United Technology Corporation. He was a McKinsey consultant early in his career.
During his 25-year career as a tech entrepreneur, Mike has helped take two companies through NASDAQ IPO's and helped raise over $1 Billion USD in growth capital. His startups have been successfully acquired by companies including AT&T, IBM Oracle, and Symantec. He remains very active (and therefore hyper-current -on disruptive technologies and business models) in this global startup ecosystem. A dedicated human-centric design practitioner and teacher, he founded and then led OpenIDEO's pioneering Boston chapter for several years. He's also organized and facilitated over 100 hackathons globally, including many for corporate clients.

Hurst Lin

Hurst Lin is the Co-Founder of DCM China and a General Partner. Hurst was a Co-Founder of SINA and a pioneer in the development of China's Internet industry. As a Co-Founding General Partner of DCM China, Hurst brought with him experience and know-how in running start-ups to help entrepreneurs accelerate the growth of their businesses.
