Rod and I went and did an event in Ontario last year and had a lot of fun.  They are a fun club.  This is an e-mail from Ontario talking about team events:  Fleche and Dart.

Personally, I absolutely love the fleche (In fact, I am going back to North Carolina to join a team in April) and the Dart is just a shorter version.

Fleche 360 km in 24 hrs - end in Jefferson City (Qualifies for many awards)
Dart is 120 km in 8 hrs - eind in Jefferson City (Qualifies for the Rouleur Award)

What are we doing locally:  Kansas City and St Louis have chosen Jefferson City as an end point this year.  Our plan is to use Amtrak to get back to St Louis or Kansas City.  It can help with logistics and not having to depend on as much support.  Plus, it is fun to ride our bikes, enjoy the spring and not worry about our day jobs for a while.

If you are interested in riding.  KC has one team for the Dart so far.  Teams are 3 to 5 bikes.  So grab a few friends.  Figure out a route to Jefferson City.  Send me an e-mail and we can get the route approved.  Then get ready to have the most fun you can have in the Spring (at least I think so).

Ride lots,
-Spencer

PS:  If you are on the fence and need more information, Keith and John said they would help me in setting up a Zoom meeting where we can chat and work out some of the logistics.

Spring Equinox is just a week away, and when I think of spring, I think of one event in particular -- the annual Flèche Ontario event.

🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴

Whether you are a seasoned randonneur looking to add another 24-hour certificate to your wall or a long-distance enthusiast curious about your first team ride, it’s time to start planning our annual pilgrimage. For 2026, we are setting our sights on a brand new common destination: Cobourg, ON.

Register for the online information session being hosted Tuesday April 7, 2026 at 19:00

Everyone who so much as registered will be emailed a recording of the meeting. So even if you can't come, your expression of interest will ensure you get the information you need.

Why we ride the Flèche

There is nothing else like it in the sport. It’s the one weekend where we trade solo suffering for collective effort. It’s about sunrises shared with teammates, overcoming the "night shift" together, and that final, triumphant roll into the destination city. Literally EVERYONE in the club can get something out of this event.

  • For Fleche Veterans: There is no 'been there done that'. Every year is a new destination, a new route, a new team, and a new distance. You know the thrill of the 24-hour clock. This year is your chance to lead or join a new crew or reunite with an old one, design a fresh 360km+ route, and chase the trophy for the longest distance completed

  • Never-been-Fleched: Maybe you've done some 200s and 300s but haven't broken the barrier on that "through the night" ride yet. What better way to have that experience than being with a group where you're guaranteed to always have people around you.

  • Come ride a Trace: If you're not up to the 24 hour ride format, or if you're simply interested in having a more relaxed 'tourist' experience, the Trace is for you. It’s a team-based, daylight-focused option (200km–360km) that gives you the full Flèche weekend experience with more flexible time constraints. More information on this available in our session.

Get the Inside Scoop

Join me and the rest of the Fleche planning committee for an online information session to kick off the 2026 planning. We’ll explain the event, help you find teammates, connect with expert route builders, and explain how the club can help broker support for transportation and lodging.

Note: This session will be recorded for those who can't make the live broadcast

Let’s fill the roads to Cobourg this May. We’ll see you on the call!
