Good morning,
I wanted to give a heads up as everyone has a distance to travel to the ride. The wind forecast for Saturday looks a little rough. I talked to Robert Sexton who uses this program and knows the person who wrote it (Randoplan). He says it is very hard to judge your speed in winds but the program takes a shot at it. We had a 600 K out of Kansas City a couple years ago with similar winds and the whole field was out of time before we could get 200 K. All 6 riders quit and got a hotel (at least we had that option) and rode back to KC the next day.
Of concern is there really isn't anything between Stapleton and Author. Temperatures are predicted to be warm so lack of water sources is also a concern.
I pulled the ride up on Epic Ride Weather and they are also showing gusts of 30 to 35 mph on Saturday afternoon. If you want me to send you screen shots of the winds from that program, I can do that.
Right now, my plan is to at least ride to Broken Bow for breakfast (50 miles). If it isn't terrible I may continue on the ride, if not, I will turn around and go back to Ord and grab my car and support the ride.
FYI, there is a good store in Arnold (Mile 83) and a good store in Stapleton (mile 103). After that, only a bar & grill in Arthur. Then nothing until Hyannis.
Regards,
Spencer
PS: After the weather folks rerun their models, these predictions might be a little better this afternoon.
