Colleagues:
FIC has reissued its small grants program for behavioral and social
sciences research collaborations (FIRCA awards). As in previous years,
NCI is a co-sponsor of the announcement specifically to support work
focused on tobacco use reduction in low- and middle-income countries.
From the Announcement:
“Limited Competition: Fogarty International Research Collaboration -
Behavioral and Social Sciences (FIRCA-BSS) Research Award (R03)
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), the “Fogarty
International Research Collaboration – Behavioral and Social Sciences
(FIRCA-BSS) Research Award” facilitates collaborative behavioral and
social sciences research between scientists supported by the National
Institutes of Health (NIH) and investigators in low- and middle-income
countries (LMICs). Special consideration will be given to proposed
research that addresses significant global health problems,
particularly those of high relevance to a LMIC or region, and that
includes research capacity building as a major aim of the proposed
project.
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is specifically interested in
funding FIRCA awards that contribute to reducing the growing burden of
tobacco use in low-and middle-income nations. NCI encourages
observational, intervention, and policy research that is locally
relevant and builds collaborations between researchers in the U.S. and
those in developing nations. More information on tobacco research
funded by NCI is available at:
