I. Letters of Intent Needed to Request CIDR Genotyping (NIDA
Investigators Only) If you are a NIDA investigator planning to submit
an application for genotyping for a Genome Wide Association Study
(GWAS) or other type genotyping study to the Center for Inherited
Disease Research from now until September 30, 2011 please email Dr.
Jonathan D. Pollock by May 14, 2010 at
jpol...@mail.nih.gov. Please
indicate genotype platform requested and the number of samples to be
genotyped. Applications will not be considered for review if letters
of intent are received after May 21th. These letters of intent are
needed for budgetary planning.
II. NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience Research Grand Challenge:
Developing Novel Drugs for Disorders of the Nervous System (U01) The
National Institutes of Health (NIH) Blueprint for Neuroscience
Research (
http://neuroscienceblueprint.nih.gov/) announces a unique
opportunity for investigators working with molecular probe compounds
to gain access to a robust ‘virtual pharma’ drug development network
to develop neurotherapeutic drugs. Successful applicants to this
initiative will be collaborative participants in this network,
receiving both funding and no-cost access to contracted drug
development services that are not typically available to the NIH-
funded research community. Drug development services include
medicinal chemistry optimization, IND-directed pharmacology and
toxicology, and Phase I clinical testing. Researchers who have disease
assays and small molecule compounds that show promise for treating
nervous system and psychiatric disorders (e.g. Substance Use
Disorder), but that are not yet suitable for clinical testing, are
strongly encouraged to apply. Investigators funded through this FOA
will be active partners in the design and implementation of the drug
development strategy in collaboration with an NIH-appointed advisory
panel of drug development experts. For details see
http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-NS-11-002.html
III. Translational Research in Methamphetamine Addiction conference,
July 19-21, 2010 Chico Hot Springs Resort, Pray, Montana (note venue)
The Translational Research in Methamphetamine Addiction conference is
co-sponsored by the MUSC Translational Research in Addiction Center
and the UCLA Center for Translational Research of Addiction. The
conference will include a comprehensive exploration of methamphetamine
addiction at the preclinical and clinical levels. The thematic
integration of the conference will offer addiction researchers a
unique forum on current findings in methamphetamine addiction with
symposia and poster sessions in the areas of: Methamphetamine
Addiction: Motivation and Cognition, Pharmacology and Toxicology of
Methamphetamine, Neuronal Function and Methamphetamine, and Therapy
for Methamphetamine Addiction. See:

IV. 2010 NIDA/ SfN Mini-convention: Frontiers in Addiction Research.
