Plus, get ready for flood of door mats, rugs, commemorative plaques, and for
us cheap b@st@rds...coasters, made from the old field.
I would guess the selling off of the old field would come close to offset
the cost of the new one.

Well, given that they'll have to tear out the asphalt under the current
AstroTurf, then install several layers of new material to assure proper
drainage, it won't be an overnight install. The LJS had a diagram in the
paper Sunday showing the various layers.
I just hope that they get it right. With 60% of the FieldTurf installed
at Seacrest Field, someone noticed that it was the wrong stuff (indoor vs
outdoor surface), so they're ripping it all out and reinstalling the
right kind. This is not expected to interfere with the use of Seacrest
Field for the opening ceremonies of the Cornhusker State Games in mid-July,
though. (As a long-time Sports Director for the CSG, I'll be on hand for
opening ceremonies, of course, so I'll get an up close view of what FieldTurf
looks like.)

They did this back in the late 70's when they replaced the carpet and it
sold well. When they did it again some years later, I don't think it sold
nearly as well. Perhaps this time it will sell better, since this will be
the turf on which Tom Osborne's National Championships were won.

They'll probably sell it in bulk to a 3rd party who will handle the rest
of the marketing. Want to form a syndicate?

The seats and bricks from old Comiskey Park were also sold
through a 3rd party and still show up occasionally at sport
collectible shows.

I've been following some of the discussion lately about about Fieldturf,
with a great deal of interest, you see I am the CEO of the company.
the seacrest field will be finished in a couple of days, so you can over
there to see the future of sports surfacing.
if any of you would like some background information feel free to
contact me and I'll try to be of help.
in the meantime, I am looking forward to meeting all of you at the first
home game.
