I haven't seen it mentioned that Eric Crouch won the
Davey O'Brien award last night which is awarded
annually to the nation's top quarterback. The Omaha
World Herald reported that Crouch is the first Husker
to win the Davey O'Brien award, which is named after
the quarterback who led TCU to a national championship
in 1938. The World Herald also reported that Crouch
was the first Husker since Mike Rozier to win the
Walter Camp award and its winner has typically gone on
to win the Heisman.

Although I was thrilled to see Crouch win these
national awards and I was glad ESPN carried the
ceremony, I thought the "Game Day" crew and their
running commentary during the show sucked! I equate
it letting movie critics hand out the Oscars. Did you
ever see Siskel and Ebert criticing movies on the
stage at the Academy Awards?

Corso and Herbstreet argued over a football playoff
and whether LSU could beat Tennessee as players and
coaches looked on. The highlight packages were great,
the interviews were nice, but the "Game Day" folks
were unnecessary. Chris Fowler struggled as an mc.
Didn't anyone see the joke he tried to tell about Walt
Disney turning 100 and looking good for his age? I
couldn't believe he would say something that stupid on
national tv.

Go Big Red

Considering that Fowler referred to Tennessee fans as "trailer trash" right
before the '98 OB, I'd say this one comes across as relatively intelligent.
