4 for 6 tonight, ties his career high in hits with 4.

Brings his average up to .228!

Unfortunately, the Royals lost 7-6 in 14 innings to the Retardnals.

He actually led off the 10th with a single and stole second, but 2
groundouts and a strikeout later he sat 90 feet away.

Unfortunately the Royals have lost to many many teams many many
times in the last 10-15 years. ;-)

Very true Bob...

Actually, I think they've got a LOT of great young talent. Of course
they'll probably trade it away before too long, but in the 'right' hands I
think this team could be good in a few years.

That being said, they've got to keep the payroll under $20 million, so FIRE
SALE!

Really? Considering the Royals 2007 payroll is over $67 million, that seems unlikely.

I wouldn't think they would drop their payroll over $40 Mil either.

Sorry Greg, that was meant to be pretty heavy sarcasm. I obviously don't
think the Royals are going to take their payroll below 20 mil.

I keep hoping the Royals get better and start competing again. I'm a White
Sox fan, but the Royals are definitely growing on me with Alex Gordon, David
Riske, Gil Meche, Teahan...etc

I like the team they're putting together, I'm just a little skeptical
they'll keep the prospects and not sell them off. I hope they do, I'd love
to see the men in Blue be good again, like when I was growing up.

(IE: Carlos Beltran, Jermaine Dye, Johnny Damon, Jeff Conine just to name a
few)

The current Royals regime is a little different now than in years past.
While they still have many of the same small market woes as teams like
Oakland and Minnesota, their current owner and management are far more
willing to commit dollars to improve the quality of the team on the
field. They have invested heavily in scouting and player development and
the recent signings of players like Meche have shown they are spending
some money. While it hasn't necessarily translated to more W's at this
point, the Royals are definitely more competitive on the field than they
have been in quite some time.

And with a $350 million renovation to Kauffman Stadium soon to get
underway (and completed in 2010), the Royals will be able to enjoy some
new stadium related revenue streams that they will hopefully reinvest
back into the product on the field. The formula is simple:

Stadium Renovations = More Revenue = Better Team = More Fans = Even More
Revenue = Even Better Team

If I were a Royals fan, there definitely would be some reason for
optimism.

Jeff,

I certainly hope you're right ;)

I was unaware of the stadium renovation (or a change of regime). I hope
you're right. I'd love to be optimistic about the Royals. Even though they
are in the same division as my Sox, I definitely don't mind the Royals.

Hey, the Rockies have won 20 of 27 (including 2 of 3 in Boston and a
sweep of the Yankees), so anything is possible. And the Royals have
actually been there in living memory.

I do agree with the general point of your post. One quick thing.
This is not a new owner. This is the same owner, David Glass, that gave
Allard Baird absolutely nothing to work with dollar wise. One of the
things Dayton Moore wanted if hired was full control and he got it along
with more money to spend. The Royals salary has increased $30 Mil in
the last two years after it went down from 2004 to 2005. Same owner.
So really it isn't as much different people as it is a changed
philosophy. David Glass has been the owner since April 18, 2000.
