Hello again dear .test...
Hopefully Ted is still here...maybe Moe lurks from Oz...who am i
missing? Well, 2018 has drawn to a close. We relocated from northern NJ
back to MI late July. I was shown the door end of April at my now
former employer due to a "rightsizing & reorganization" so 10 yrs and
see you later. Umm, I'm 59. Let's face it: we all agree ageism is
illegal but who hires a late career person over someone 25 yrs younger?
Didn't get much action out of other auto dealers in NJ so decided to
come back to the old stomping grounds in MI. Took about a month but I
got a job w/ a Subaru dealer. Totally relaxed atmosphere.

Meanwhile our little Paul & Janell are all grown up now. Both are
graduated and gainfully employed. And, both are now getting married
this year. Wow. Janell is first in late June here in MI and Paul is in
early Nov in NJ. Dear Dad will officiate and be a blubbering mess for
both.

Nancy & I are (mostly) healthy and upright, vertical, & breathing.
Probably should've checked in earlier but still here. I spamproofed the
email to keep the bots at bay although Usenet is largely abandoned.
Shouldn't be hard to see the real email addy. Netjam '96 rocked. Happy
new year everybody.

Ben is the only other long timer I can think of, and he passed a
few years ago. Oh yeah, Don too. Last I heard, he was doing
well.

Haven't heard from Moe in ages, but checking out his blog it seems
there was some very recent activity...

Yeah, I know what you mean about the age thing. In mid-2017 I'd
had enough at my old position in Bloomington, and was starting to
look around. At 61 then, my optionss seemed limited--though I did
(and do) have considerable experience in somewhat specialized work
and could have leveraged that.

As it turned out, my original employer in West Lafayette was
looking for someone with my skill set, so I went back to that part
of the organization that fall. It's been a good fit for me, and
I'm glad to hear you landed in what sounds like a good setting!

Congratulations! Kathy and I were able to get two of our three
sons and their wives (and two of two grandkids!) together for
Christmas. We had a week with the other son a month (two?) ago,
and am pleased to report he is doing well for the most part.

Kathy and I are doing okay, all things considered. She has more
and more problems with arthritis, and I'm feeling more aches and
pains than of old. Seems I've developed an inguinal hernia, and
have a surgical consult next week. Expect they will recommend
fixing it (which is okay by me). Otherwise, I'm doing okay.

Nah, you've been good about checking in at all! I've not done so,
except to respond when you do.

Hope you both have a great 2019!

Curious if the vibe is much different between IU/Bloomington vs
Purdue/W Lafeyette?

Seems so to me. Bloomington is home of IU, with an arts and
science focus--especially music. It strikes me as being a bit
hoity toity. West Lafayette has Purdue, a land grant school with
the requisite agriculture and engineering programs. Folks seem a
little more down to earth--and more similar to Nebraska, a plus.

Kathy and I feel a bit more at home in West Lafayette.
