These 3 Joomla enthusiasts will be presenting at Joomla Day New England on April 13, 2013. Below are highlights of their presentation.
One of Joomla's greatest strengths is all the great extensions that can be integrated to add functionality to your website. From the point of view of the designer, this has always been one of the biggest problems -- How to make all these different extensions look like they are on the same site.
Joomla UI, with the included Bootstrap, is a way that Joomla 3.x fixes that. Come hear Andrea Tarr’s presentation on this subject. Andy is a member of the Joomla’s Production Leadership Team (PLT) and co-manager of Joomla User Group New England. She is the author of the book “PHP and MySQL 24-Hour Trainer” that teaches PHP to non-programmers who know HTML/CSS. She is a Joomla/PHP Architect for Sears Holdings.
Do you love Joomla? Are you ready to take the next step and turn your hobby into a source of income? Maybe you already use Joomla at your current job and want to look into ways of earning extra income. Whether you are thinking about going full time or part time, we will discuss how to make that step. Ken Crowder will be presenting on this subject. Ken is better known by most as ChiefGoFor on the Joomla! Forum. He has been involved in the Joomla! Community since its inception and has volunteered countless hours to help the open source project, including time on the Joomla Leadership Team. Ken authored the book Using Joomla! for O'Reilly and is the author of the Joomla Security video series at lynda.com.
Track 2’s presentation "Joomla! Under the Hood" will look at how Joomla code is organized and how that structure makes it possible for you easily to customize your website however you want. You’ll learn what MVC stands for, the magic that makes template overrides work and lots more.
Joomla is designed to be so easy to use that you never have to know about the code that makes it run. But just like it’s a good idea to know how to change a tire on your car, you will be empowered when you understand some of the basic pieces that make Joomla! work.
This talk is aimed at people who are not php developers but who want to understand more about the inner workings of their Joomla sites. It will also cover:
· Folder structure running behind the scenes of your website.
· Images Directory and Media Manager.
· HTaccess and why it’s important
· Templates directory.
· File/Folder Permissions.
· Security Patches
