New issue 68 by S.Khawam: Text is not recognised in Gnome/gtk programs in
Ubuntu 10.10
http://code.google.com/p/neatx/issues/detail?id=68

I am using NeatX along with NoMachine's NX client to connect to a machine
with Ubuntu 10.10 installed. When running Gnome/gtk programs (such as
gnome-terminal, gedit, gvim), for some reasons text is not recognised as
text and is rendered using JPEG compression, which is slow.

QT/KDE programs like konsole work well. Old gnome programs in ubuntu 9.10
used to work well.

This issue is probably the same as Ubuntu bug #682338 / FreeDesktop bug
#32014.

Thanks Ryan - I will try preloading the older libcairo2 as you suggested in
the FreeDesktop bug report.

This is probably not a neatx issue: neatx is just a wrapper for the
underlying, GPL published NX libraries and tools, which are provided
separately. It's the steering wheel on the NX vehicle, not the engine.

Definitely make sure you're using the latest NX client from Nomachine,
they've been addressing a number of issues for Ubuntu users with their
latest updates. And since the neatx code base seems to have become
static and hasn't had patches in roughly a year, consider testing the
actual NoMachine toolkits, which I've tested and work well for free,
personal, non-business use.

I have exactly the same issue. It works perfectly well when I connect
to Ubuntu Lucid server. Text comes as text and the performance is
great. Same client connecting to Maverick results in text being JPEG
compressed.

The result is the same whether it is a NoMachine server or neatx. It
only depends on the version of Ubuntu. Both neatx and NoMachine server
works well with Lucid and both compress text on Maverick while the
client stays the same. The only difference is that the client connects
to the NoMachine server ~5 times faster then to the neatx server.

I run NoMachine client both on Lucid & Maverick.
