Has anyone found out how to get the volume on the MCS2000 to turn all the way off or is it designed to only be turned down but not all the way off?  I checked the software and the only area I found that had to do with controlling any volume is in the Alert tones area.

I am basing this on many other Moto radios I have.......there is a
minimum volume setting in RSS. In the PRO series radios I have, that
functionality is in the alignment software and not in the programming
RSS. Can some one confirm this assumption?

I don't have the RSS infront of me, however, the value your looking for is the MINIMUM USER SELECTABLE SPEAKER OUTPUT value...  search the 'help' menu for 'minimum'  -- i don't recall where it is, but we had this set on all of the busses for obvious reasons...  (who wants to hear dispatchers, anyways!)

If you wish to verify that your volume knob and front panel buttons work correctly, press the 'home' key 5 times [TYPE 1 - press the "PHONE" key 5 times] just after it powers up.  You'll see all the critical information (model, serial number, flashport revision, CH Type, firmware etc.)  it will then drop you to a menu which you can select either:
RF TEST
or
CH TEST   Toggle with the channel up/down buttons (on most models) and press "SEL" to select the CH TEST (control head test)

The radio will now indicate each input with a decimal converted hex-address / decimal converted 'current value'.

turning the volume knob may change it to 1/254 at maximum, and 1/0 at minimum -- should be in multiples of 8 or 16 all the way up the dial...

You can test PTT, mic-hangup switch (HUB), all the front-panel buttons, switches, and knobs, as well as the external inputs (ign sense and panic switch).  rotating the volume knob should generate a sidetone relative to the volume for testing distortion of speakers.

I'm used to the type 2 control heads -- i've tested about 1500 of them on public transit busses...  a nice convenient way to make sure everything is working and a great way to find intermittent connections (ie: bad mic cord or something -- key radio, watch for value to toggle (also gives audio cues with value changes))

Have fun...

Oh yeah, to get out of test mode, push the power button (volume knob) to reset the radio.

There must be such a setting as I can bring my volume to zero on both my 900 and UHF MCS2000's.

OK, thanks Lee I’ll give it a shot today.

Since we’re on the subject, how about the min volume on a CDM mobile radio? I have two 1550’s and two 1250’s that all seem to have the volume set like the MCS2000?

Thanks for you help.

There is also a minimum volume setting in the WARIS RSS; it's on the same screen that contends with all the PTT sidetone levels, i believe in the "radiowide" settings.   (Again, i don't have the RSS infront of me, so i'm going from my already horrible memory).   Searching the 'help' screen with a codeplug open will reveal hot-links to bring up the appropriate screens.

Lee,

This MCS2000 must be set up differently, I couldn’t get the info to come up after it powered up and hit the “phone” button 5 times. Did anyone else find this?

should be the third button from the left on a Type 1 control head (center of the display).   If it's a Type 2 /3 its the 'home' button 5 times...
