Hello All,
Due to my time restriction (leaving next week)  in getting Saddleback 900 fixed I am asking if anyone might have a radio/receiver with good sensitivity on 902 MHz to donate or at an affordable price to use as a receiver for the Deerfield machine. I would need a programmed radio pre-wired  COR signal preferably based on valid tone and an audio signal to feed the controller. I might have a working radio but I’m thinking its receive sensitivity might be poor on amateur. I’m currently gathering things to find out.

This does not need TX.It  just needs receive capability only with COR output.

I’m scrambling to find my stuff and this is a possibility question in case I fail on having everything in place from my inventory of stuff.

Thanks,
Paul

Paul,

Would a motorola GTX series mobile work? Analog only and no frills, but surplus to my needs. Tried to sell at nearfest but no takers. Not sure if it’s sensitive enough for repeater duty on a temporary basis.

Possibly

Have two 900 NHz Kenwood mobiles. Impossible to get out from Wilton NH without major height that I don't have.

Probably can find the programming cable too
Contact me directly if interested

Looks like I might be all set. Found a Kenwood TK-931 I had for repeater that I was able to replace front end filters and modify the VCO with a variable cap to get it to lock down on 902 MHz receive. I’ll make up a cable to tap COR and audio and see how it goes. Why does everything break at the last minute AAAHHHH!😱

Kenwood has a terrible microphonic issue where internal speaker for mobile would require an external speaker.

I also have the Maxtrac 800 modified for 902 receive but it is programmed for wrong 902 frequency. It works just can’t program it for Deerfield. Just in case please let me know if you can reprogram it if needed. I could use a spare receiver for that repeater.

Thanks!!!

Just to be clear, most 900 MHz mobiles have 935 MHz front end filters.  That makes then slightly less sensitive at 927 MHz and completely DEAF at 902 MHz.

Paul is looking for a 902 MHz receiver.

Can you program Maxtrac radios as I have Maxtrac 800 modified for 902 MHz and has good receive? Would need to read and then change frequency and tone.

I found a Maxtrax 800 I had for a repeater build which was modified for 902 MHz and has good receive however it is programmed for 902.8.
Can anyone program it for Deerfield 902.6875 MHz with tone 88.5.

I’m still checking some other radios for 902 MHz possibly, but I do need to know if all else fails can I get the Maxtac on frequency. I have to take radio to site to see if front jack is wired same as one there now. COR and áudio are going to controller from mic jack. Hopefully it can still be programmed from same jack.

I do have a RIB box and need to see if I have radio cable, but no software. so maybe someone can steer me to software but then there is the DOS issue so probably quicker if someone is setup to plug and go.

Thanks,
Paul

Many years ago I used to take 800 MHz Maxtracs
and convert them to 902 MHz for use in
Repeaters.

Did a lot of them (50 or so) with zero complaints.

That radio should move nicely with
a DOS Computer and the software.

I have the software stored on one
of my drives. Would need to hunt
to find it. All the DOS boxes went
to salvage years ago.

I have Maxtrac software, RIB, cables, and a computer that can program them.

Problem is I am located near New Bedford MA.

But, let me know how I can help.

Hi Ben,
Would you be available Sunday for me to drive down if I need to get it programmed. I’m having RF getting into the Kenwood. I move it around and it gets worse or better. Once I close cabinet door it is a mess of desense in radio.
Not sure what I am going to do at moment.

Thank you,
Paul

I just tried a Kenwood which I changed out filters and modified VCO to get lock at 902 and unfortunately the Kenwood is not shielded well so front end sensitivity goes from .35 uV to unacceptable level. I find a location in cabinet that gets me back to .35 and when I close cabinet it goes to crap. Going to try to shield case if possible but not looking good.

Sure thing. I can be around tomorrow. Afternoon preferable, but morning can work.

I just realized I am not sure my software has been patched for Ham 900MHz (I just have been working on VHF models.) Let me bust out my hex editor tonight and I will confirm I am good to go.

Okay I’m going to try to shield receiver and if it fails I’ll see if I can get down there. I really may have to call it a day as I’m basically out of time now. It might have to wait for the spring when I get back.

Thank you,

I hex edited the appropriate bits and the RSS starts without choking,
however, I don't have a codeplug or a 900 Maxtrac to test for full
functionality.

Keep me posted if you want to come down, I'm confident, but I'm not the
one driving. :)

Since my time has basically run out I’m going to just make some jumpers and put receiver outside the cabinet and it will be what it is.

If anyone can program the Maxtrac 800 I would appreciate being able to get it programmed hopefully at NearFest in the Spring.

If not I’ll spend the winter researching what I need to reprogram them.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

Paul

Here is the situation.

I got the RF interference out by enclosing the receiver in a box however after hooking up the radio to the antenna I discovered the links were getting into the repeater receiver so I shut the links down and the receiver works okay for the repeater, so until my return none of the sites are linked.

Hopefully I’ll be able to get the Maxtrac 800 programmed and installed.

Thanks everyone!!
