Garudais none but the vahana or vehicle of Lord Vishnu, the creator and sustainer of the universe. Sri Garuda Puranam, is one among the primary 18 puraans. This is a spiritually insightful book which narrates the history of Garuda and Lord Vishnu. It is said to be a "sathwika puranam" (meaning "pure" and "enigmatic") because of its references to Sri Maha Vishnu. It contains details of life after death, liberation, duties and rituals, and the punishments for non performance. It emphasises the importance of Antyeshti (the rituals to be performed after one's death). This book is narrated in Tamil.
