The B-18 - a bomber adaptation of the DC-2 ( not the -3) , was bought in some numbers ( over 300) instead of the early versions of the B-17 , because it cost only half of what the B-17 cost ( $100,000 vs $192,000) . Obsolete by 1941 , it was used still used as a bomber , and later as a transport , trainer . and coastal patrol aircraft. A few have survived , most with the "shark-nose" of the B-18A , although an original "Bull-nose" B-18 can be found at the Castle Air Museum, Atwater , CA and a "Radar Nose" was adapted for a number of B-18Bs.

I had the chance to climb in and around the B-18B now at the PASM, back in 1966, before it was the PSAM ( then PAM) had a location to display their collection . The B-18B was on a deserted ramp at the Tucson International Airport.
