At 2am on 7 May 1945, the German surrender process began, at Eisenhower's hq in Reims.

Allied military occupation of West German territory formally ended on May 5, 1955, with the recognition of the Federal Republic of Germany as having “the full authority of a sovereign state.

And at roughly the same time on May 7, 1945 , my Wife was born . She always held it against Truman that V-E Day was declared for May 8th.....

Yes , yes , I know  - the delay was due to tactical reasons to get the word out to all Military forces in Europe that hostilities would stop at a specific time in several hours , ( and also to let the Russians have their own surrender signing in Berlin ) but still.......
