Regarding content, these are some things that could and should be up
almost immediately:

ABOUT/HOME
mission statement/goals
geographic and institutional scope of organization
memorandum of understanding (obviously we don't have this yet and i'm
not sure where to put it)
-----
MEMBERSHIP
membership list (institutions & individuals)
criteria for membership
some kind of "Join the node" capability
-----
GOVERNANCE (e.g., Steering committee list, steering committee
meetings, bylaws, etc.)
-----
MEETINGS
upcoming meetings info (perhaps with a "registration feature?")
past meetings info (e.g., meeting notes, general summary)
-----
FORUMS
general forum
working group forums (meeting, membership, informatics, website,
funding...)
-----
LINKS (to other nodes and national portals-e.g, GBIF)
-----
CONTACT US

Some items that could be added later include:
-----
FAQ
What are herbaria & why are they important?
Why form a node or share data?
-----
NEWS (e.g., this could include news about things occurring in the
region and stuff about other nodes and the national efforts)
-----

Regarding design, the entire design of the site could flow from a logo
or banner. Kathie and I are currently chatting about how to proceed
with this.

The problem with logos is that they can take a long time to develop
and need certain amount of input from members; however, at the Peabody
I have access to graphic artists that could assist in this.

A banner could be a graphic that includes elements that reflect the
interests of the group (e.g., a plant herbarium specimen, fungus,
computer, distribution map, map of northeast, herbarium cabinet, etc.).

I think this looks good. It's modest, but we're going to have to
generate anything we want to post, so modest is good.
We can add more as we have the need and the time to write it.
At this point, all we really need is something explaining who/what we
are and how others can join us if they share our interests.

This message has been moved from another thread:

Hi,

I wanted to comment about the banners, but did not where to do it, so
I hope you do not mind reading it here.
I liked very much the options 3 or 4 of the banner. Since our
collections include not only vascular plants, but algae, fungi,
perhaps we do not need to include the representations of any group (I
like ferns, but then I am thinking, "I would like to have a flower
added too").

Cheers!
Alina.
