Professional Development Education Consultant

The Ocean Discovery League (ODL) aims to remove barriers to equity in deep-sea exploration by developing low-cost deep-sea technologies, creating AI-driven data analysis tools, and building capacity with historically excluded communities.

There is a significant capacity gap between high and low income countries with respect to access to tools, training, and infrastructure for deep-sea exploration and research. ODL has been conducting design research to inform the development of the Ocean Discovery Fellowship, our flagship equity program to identify, train, and support ocean explorers and researchers from historically excluded backgrounds around the world. Our goal is to build international capacity in ocean exploration to foster a demographic and generational shift that will change how we understand and care for our oceans. We are hiring a Fellowship Strategist & Manager to design and develop the program in advance of the launch of a pilot Fellowship program in late 2023/early 2024.

Essential Job Functions:

Design the structure and curriculum of the Ocean Discovery Fellowship program: The Fellowship Manager will lead the design and development of the new Ocean Discovery Fellowship, in collaboration with our team and global network of partners. Tasks will include design of the program structure and curriculum, as well as processes for identification of potential inaugural fellows. They will serve as facilitator for all Fellowship activities both internally at ODL and with external partner organizations.

Serve as the primary point of contact for the program: The Fellowship Manager will build relationships with stakeholders, including individuals and organizations, incorporating feedback into the program design to make it stronger. Stakeholders may include individual instructors for courses and institutions that we may partner with to deliver the curriculum to Fellows. The Fellowship Manager will foster consistent interaction with stakeholders throughout the year via conference calls, email, or other methods of communication.

Contribute to grant-writing and fundraising efforts: ODL is currently funded to develop the Fellowship program, but additional funding will be required to execute the program. The Fellowship Manager will assist the ODL team with writing proposals, preparing and giving presentations, and other fundraising needs as they arise.

This role may expand or evolve as funding for execution of the Fellowship program is secured.

Compensation: $30,000, flat rate
Location: Remote
Job Type: Contract
