Position Overview

Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences is seeking a postdoctoral scientist to participate in an NSF funded study addressing the relationship of mixotrophy with cell size and morphology. The successful candidate will lead a series of laboratory growth and grazing experiments that use stable isotope analysis to discern the nutrient acquisition pathways – photosynthesis versus phagotophy – that mixotroph species employ under a gradient of growth-limiting conditions. The work will be part of a collaborative project involving research groups from two different institutions.

Review of candidates will begin on May 1st, 2023 and the position will remain open until filled. The position is based at Bigelow Laboratory with an expectation that the candidate will be available to start in September 2023 (negotiable). The salary band for this full-time position begins at $53,682, with a generous benefits package including health care, retirement contribution, and paid time off. This position is funded for two years.

Requirements

- A Ph.D. degree in a relevant field and a strong background in marine microbial ecology, including molecular research approaches.

- Scientific rigor, curiosity, and originality.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work harmoniously in a collaborative research team are crucial.

- Prior experience working with stable isotopes

Please submit a cover letter, CV, and three professional references using our online application portal. The candidates should highlight in the cover letter (a) their main scientific achievements, (b) the overlap of their experience and interest with the project, and (c) the alignment of the position with the applicant's career aspirations.
