Coastal Resilience Coordinator

The Northeastern Regional Association of Coastal Ocean Observing Systems (NERACOOS) is seeking to hire a Coastal Resilience Coordinator to manage and grow a portfolio of work on emerging issues and technologies related to coastal resilience, sea level rise, and coastal inundation in the Northeastern U.S. A particular focus will be developing and supporting a water level monitoring community of practice with an emphasis on lower cost sensors. Additionally, the position will coordinate the expansion of water level monitoring sensors supported through NERACOOS.  The position will also help determine how to most effectively capitalize on and evolve the regional ocean observing system managed by NERACOOS to better monitor and forecast coastal water level.  In order to most effectively guide these activities, the position will conduct extensive user engagement to improve our understanding of water level data and information needs, and to channel that understanding into the development and evolution of data products. Across this portfolio of work, the position will work at the intersection of coastal science and end-user engagement.

Compensation Range: $60,000 - $75,000

Minimum Qualifications

·        Advanced degree in a relevant field of marine science or engineering, with a preference for physical oceanographic expertise. We will also consider candidates with a bachelor’s degree plus unique or extensive relevant experience.

·        Interest and experience in organizing communities of scientists, policymakers, and industry members, and in directing science to application.

·        Excellent communication skills including technical report writing, popular communications, and grant proposal development.

·        Experience in stakeholder outreach and engagement, or strong willingness and potential to develop engagement skills.

·        Demonstrated strategic thinker able to build and sustain operational monitoring systems, including financial mechanisms.

Applying Instructions: Submit CV, 1-page cover letter, and contact information for three professional references as a PDF to Rob Cardeiro (r...@neracoos.org). The search committee will review applications beginning June 1, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled.
