JOB SUMMARY:

The Environmental Studies and Sciences department at Adelphi University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor and University Sustainability Officer beginning in Fall of 2026. We seek an environmental scholar with a strong commitment to teaching undergraduate and graduate students from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, an active geospatial science research agenda, and a practical understanding of environmental policy. The ideal candidate will be someone who can lead a successful research group involving undergraduate and graduate students in any area of environmental studies and sciences.

 

Adelphi is reviewing the recent governmental changes to the H1B process and is encouraging all qualified candidates to apply.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Teach courses and supervise student research assistants at the undergraduate and graduate levels.`

  2. Available course options include Climate Change, Mapping Environmental Issues, Environmental Spatial Analysis, Environmental Geographic Systems, Natural Science and Environmental Problems, Environmental Policy, Green Energy, Observing Nature in the Field, Marine Resources, a graduate introductory seminar, or course(s) in the candidate’s areas of expertise.

  3. Working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems preferred.

  4. Course-release time will be provided for campus-wide sustainability efforts and establishing Adelphi’s STARS rating (through the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education).

  5. Collaborate with other Environmental Studies and Sciences faculty currently working on environmental and climate change research.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ph.D. in Environmental Studies or Sciences, Sustainability, Environmental Policy or related field is required at the time of appointment.

  2. Demonstrated research and teaching expertise.

SALARY INFORMATION:

 

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $81,000 - $83,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.
